It hosted the Western Hockey League teams including the Kamloops Chiefs , Kamloops Junior Oilers and, most notably, the Kamloops Blazers . It was replaced in 1992 by the new Riverside Coliseum since renamed Sport Mart Place , then the Interior Savings Centre . However, the old arena still stands and is used for other levels of hockey. The former diocese is now designated the Parishes of the Central Interior and they are served not by a diocesan bishop of their own but by a suffragan bishop to the Metropolitan of British Columbia . The parish church of St Paul s in Kamloops nevertheless retains its nominal designation as a cathedral and its rector that of a dean, despite there being no diocese to be dean of.     The Kamloops Indian Residential School was part of the Canadian residential school system and one of the 130 boarding schools for First Nations children that operated in Canada between 1874 and 1996. The Kamloops School was opened in 1893 initially as the Kamloops Industrial School and continued operation until 1977. Hundreds of Secwepemc children attended the school, often forcibly removed from their homes once attendance became mandatory by law. Children were not allowed to speak their native Secwepemctsin language or practice their own spirituality. The school still stands today.   1. Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts

    Orphan date February 2009 The Kamloops Festival of Performing Arts KFPA is an arts competition held yearly between February and March in Kamloops , British Columbia , Canada . It is a member organization in the Performing Arts BC Association of Regional Festivals and Federation of Canadian Music Festivals . The KFPA is managed by a Board of Directors from the community and funded by donations, competition fees and audience entrance fees. The competition is open to music students of all ages from Kamloops and the B.C Interior region. KFPA today The 75th annual KFPA was held from February to March, 2008. Hundreds of arts students competed in the following categories choral , dance , instrumental , piano , speech & theatrical arts, string instrument strings and singing voice at a variety of venues throughout Kamloops. The Festival is divided into age groups and classes within each discipline, defined by musical genre or type. For example, singing voice classes include folk song , art song and musical theatre , with separate competitions for various ages of student. Each class includes multiple competitors, who perform one piece per class. Each performer is then critiqued by an adjudicator usually an established artist or instructor from outside the community , who assigns a grade to the performer. The performer with the highest grade receives first place in that class, and recognition is also given to those with the second and third highest marks. Adjudicators and others also hold discipline workshops, in which competitors are given the opportunity to improve their skills.
