Gabriel Barkay is an Israeli archaeologist. Born in 1944 in Hungary , he immigrated to Israel in 1950. He received his PhD in Archaeology from Tel Aviv University in 1985. His dissertation was about LMLK seal impressions on jar handles. He participated in the Lachish excavations with David Ussishkin . His academic areas of interest include the archaeology of Jerusalem , biblical archaeology, burials and burial customs, art, epigraphy, and glyptics in the Iron Age . Dr. Barkay s most famous discoveries are small silver scroll amulet amulets containing the Priestly Blessing priestly benediction from the Book of Numbers , which he discovered in 1979 at Ketef Hinnom . These amulet amulets contain the oldest surviving biblically related inscription discovered to date, dating back to 600 BC. He also excavated the Iron Age tombs on the grounds of the cole Biblique in the early 1970s. File Gabriel Barkay at Ketef Hinnom.jpg 250px Barkay frequently appears on the History Channel show The Naked Archaeologist , which is hosted by Simcha Jacobovici . Barkay is currently an external lecturer at Bar Ilan University . In 2005, together with archaeologist Zachi Zweig , Barkay established the Temple Mount Antiquities Salvage Operation , a project funded by the Ir David Foundation and dedicated to recovering archaeological artifacts from 400 truckloads of earth removed from the Temple Mount by the Waqf and Israeli Islamic movement during 1996 2001. The construction included the establishment of an underground mosque el Marwani at an ancient structure known as Solomon s Stables , excavating a huge pit as an entrance to the structure, and reducing the platform level at the area north to the entrance. ref http www.echad.info sifting media jpost14 4 05.html Temple Mount relics saved from garbage, Etgar Lefkovits, THE JERUSALEM POST Apr. 14, 2005 ref One of the findings of this project is a Bulla seal bulla round clay seal affixed to documents containing three lines of writing in Hebrew. ... more details

The Tyropoeon, now filled up with a vast accumulation of debris, and almost a plain, was spanned by bridges, the most noted of which was Zion Bridge, which was probably the ordinary means of communication between the royal palace on Zion and the temple. The western wall of the Temple Mount rose up from the bottom of this valley to the height of 84 feet, where it was on a level with the area, and above this, and as a continuance of it, the wall of Solomon s cloister rose to the height of about 50 feet, so that this section of the wall would originally present to view a stupendous mass of masonry scarcely to be surpassed by any mural masonry in the world. In the Copper Scroll this valley is called in Hebrew the Outer Valley 3Q15 col.8, line 4 . Gehennesis is the third released album by the Danish Melodic Death Metal band Compos Mentis band Compos Mentis . It was released in Denmark on March 26, 2007 and released in the rest of the world on June 18, 2007. It was recorded at Zigzound, Viby, Aarhus, Denmark during 2006. For a year or so, The Drunken Diamond and The Mind s Eye were the only ones to be published, though the record already had been finished. This was due to the bands need of a record label, but in the end of 2006 they found a label, and thus they signed with Mighty Music. Some months later, in March, the group released their new album on Mighty Music. The title The title, Gehennesis is a wordplay combining the words Gehenna and Genesis , the latter being the first book in the Old Testament and meaning creation. Gehenna Hebrew Ge Ben Hinnom was a valley south of Jerusalem, which was used for rituals and later on was turned into a waste site where a constant burning fire was devouring litter and dead bodies of animals and criminals. As such it became a symbol of destruction and perpetual fire and hence the name Gehenna has later come to be a synonym for Hell. The reviews In Denmark the release of Gehennesis achieved in general good reviews, both the press and others expressed their satisfaction with the bands work. However, their seem to be a tendency to either just cheer the music and ignore the lyrics, or cheer the concept, lyrics and the sound. Track listing I. The Drunken Diamond 5 27 br II. Ernest L. The term can be seen as an equivalent to the Greek language Greek term Acropolis . The Ophel in Jerusalem main City of David The City of David, also known as the Ophel, is a narrow promontory beyond the southern edge of Jerusalem s Temple Mount and Old City, with the Tyropoeon Valley valley of the cheesemakers on its west, the Hinnom valley to the south, and the Kidron Valley on the east. The previously deep valley the Tyropoeon separating the Ophel from what is now referred to as the Old City of Jerusalem currently lies hidden beneath the debris of centuries. Despite the name, the Old City of Jerusalem dates from a much later time than the settlement in the City of David, which is generally considered to have been the original Jerusalem. Traditionally, the name City of David applied to the area inside the ancient fortifications, while the name Ophel applied to the area between the end of the city wall and the Temple Mount .
