Richard Taylor 6 July 1981 8 August 2004 was a Wales Welsh inline skating and freestyle skiing champion. Taylor, from Barry, Vale of Glamorgan Barry , Vale of Glamorgan , learned to skate because he wanted to become a stunt performer stuntman . He turned professional at the age of 15 after winning the World Amateur International Inline Skate Series IISS and qualifying 6th in the Professional Competition in Amsterdam 1996. He went on to win the UK National In Line skating championship twice. Taylor had a large fanbase, especially in Europe. He also competed in the British Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding Championships in Les Deux Alpes in March 2004, winning the Big Air ski title and was about to join the Line Skis Professional Team that winter season. Death He collided with a concrete lamp post while skating near his home on 8 August 2004 and suffered a skull fracture that caused a coma . He also broke both legs in the accident. When he failed to regain consciousness, his parents on 8 August consented to his life support machine being turned off. His parents Gaynor and the now late John Taylor set up the Richard Taylor Memorial Fund to raise funds to have the Skatepark at Cold Knap the Knap , Barry upgraded and dedicated to his memory. Edward Benjamin Howard Cunnington 1861 1950 , was a United Kingdom British archaeologist most famous for his work on prehistoric Wiltshire . He was the great grandson of the famous antiquarian William Cunnington and the fourth generation of his family to work recording and preserving Wiltshire s past. The son of Henry Cunnington, a wine merchant, Benjamin was a journalist before joining his father s business. He was also for sixty years also the unpaid honorary curator of Devizes Museum. In 1889 he married Maud Cunnington Maud Pegge and the two devoted their lives to archaeology. They had one son, Edward, who was killed in the First World War . The Cunningtons carried out Excavation archaeology excavations at some of the most important sites in British archaeology. These included the first known Neolithic causewayed enclosure at Knap Hil , the Iron age village at All Cannings Cross , West Kennet Long Barrow , Woodhenge , which they named and the The Sanctuary . This last monument they rediscovered as it had been lost since William Stukeley saw it in the eighteenth century. Woodhenge and The Sanctuary were bought by the Cunningtons and given to the nation. Porthkerry Park is a large, public country park on the coast of Barry, Vale of Glamorgan Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan in south Wales . It has fields, extensive woodland and nature trails, cliff top pathways, a pebble stone beach , and a small golf course. Architecturally, it is noted for its prominent viaduct crossed by a railway that served as a transportation for coal from the South Wales Valleys to the port in the 19th and 20th centuries. With the combination of green areas and the coastal location, the park is a popular destination for local primary schools taking their pupils on trips to study nature. The Egerton Grey Country House Hotel is also located in Porthkerry. History On the northern side of the park is the site of the old village at Cwmcidi meaning Valley of the Black Dog , which came into existence before the middle of the 13th century. In 1622, Cwmcidi contained 5 houses bordering Comkedye Street , interspersed with a number of tofts dwelling sites plus three scattered dwellings. By 1812, there remained only three cottages and a farmhouse. The cottages were finally swept away in the 1840s when the area was landscaped by the Romilly family to form Porthkerry Park. Image Kiells Chapel, Graveyard By HypeNapungra.jpg thumb 300px right A View From The Graveyard Keills Chapel is a small chapel located in the west Scottish Highlands Highlands , Scotland , near the village of Tayvallich , Knapdale . Its name originates from the word lang gv keeill . The re roofed structure contains an important collection of early stone sculpture, including six early Christian cross slabs, around forty late medieval grave slabs recovered from the chapel or churchyard, and a celtic cross which originally stood outside the chapel where a modern blank replacement now stands. The original has been moved inside the chapel to protect it from the elements. The complete and well preserved late 8th early 9th century cross is carved from local grey green epidiorite . It is only decorated on one face, the sides and back being dressed smooth without further decoration. Its proportions are unusual, with very short side arms broader than the shaft and upper limb. The latter shows the archangel St. Michael standing over a serpent a symbol of triumph over the devil . The lower limb shows Christ on the Last Judgement Judgement Seat . He is holding a book, possibly the Bible or New Testament , symbolising mercy, in his left hand, and a flail in his right, symbolising judgement. There is a circular design at the crossing, with three round objects in the centre, which may symbolise the Holy Trinity . Around this are four animals representing the four evangelists . The chapel is in the care of Historic Scotland as is Kilmory Knap Chapel on the opposite shore of Loch Sween. Open at all reasonable times. No entrance charge.
