Qodchanis Pronunciation needed lang syr transl syr Qudsh nes , also spelt Qudshanes, Kotchanes, Qochanis or Kocanis was the capital of Hakkari and the seat of the List of Patriarchs of the Church of the East Assyrian bishops before 1915. The village is situated about 20 km northeast of the provincial capital Hakk ri of Hakk ri Province , in the southeastern corner of Turkey , near the borders of Iran and Iraq. The town was inhabited by Assyrian people Assyrians and had become the seat of the patriarchs of the Assyrian Church of the East from the 17th century until 1915 when its inhabitants were massacred in the Assyrian Genocide . From the 1920s until the intensification of the war between the Turkish government and the PKK in the 1990s, when the village was evacuated, it was inhabited by Kurds. Administratively, Hatay forms part of the metropolitan district of Konak District , zmir Konak , zmir s historic center along the southern shores of the tip of the Gulf of zmir , and the largest and the most central of the nine districts that constitute the metropolitan area today. Hatay roughly corresponds to the hillside area of zmir reached after a steep climb behind the city s central square of Konak District , zmir Konak Konak Meydan and commands this square and the quarter of Alsancak to the east, as well as the coastal strait that increasingly narrows towards the west.
