In a long and tight series, the Chiefs won game 7 and the series 4 games to 3 to win their first OHA Cup as provincial champions. A year later, the Chiefs were again the Eastern league champions. For the provincial title, the Chiefs drew the Western Ontario league s St. George Dukes . The Chiefs defeated them 4 games to 2 to clinch their second straight OHA Cup as Ontario Junior D Champions. In 1980, the Lakefield Chiefs were promoted to join the Central Lakeshore Junior C Hockey League.   1. Young's Point, Ontario

    Unreferenced date June 2009 Young s Point is a small village in Ontario , Canada , established in 1825. It is about 25  km north of Peterborough, Ontario Peterborough . Young s Point gets its name from the founders of the village. The Young family settled the area and build the dam and a grist mill here. References are recorded in Susanna Moodie s Book Roughing it in the Bush. Later generations ran a store and built and operated the steamboat service for both cargo and passenger service to nearby Stoney Lake. The Stoney Lake Navigation Company office was near the original Young family homestead where a cairn now stands at lock 27. The Lockside Trading Company is home to one of the later generation buildings. Young s Point is the home of Lock 27 of the Trent Severn Waterway network. The lock has a lift of seven feet and was built in the early 1870s. To the south you can travel through Katchewanooka Lake towards Lakefield, Ontario Lakefield and on to Peterborough, Ontario Peterborough , to the north travel through Bracebridge, Ontario Clear Lake and on to Stoney, Buckhorn and Pigeon Lakes and beyond. In 1887 the Old Bridge Inn was built originally run as a general store the Kearney Store , it s now a bed and breakfast . In addition, Young s Point is host to several recreational facilities, including, but not limited to a golf course, several bed & breakfast hotels, marinas and restaurants. The total length of the river is only 55  km, although geographically, it is a continuation of the Trent River Ontario Trent River , which drains Rice Lake at its eastern end, making the lake a widening of the combined stream. This river is part of the Trent Severn Waterway . The river is called Odoonabii ziibi Tullibee River in the Ojibwe language . Some areas of Peterborough along the Otonabee are prone to flood ing following heavy rains, such as happened on July 15, 2004 when 240  mm 7.3 in fell in some locations in under twenty four hours. Trent University operates its own hydroelectric plant on the river. Both Susanna Moodie and Catharine Parr Traill lived on farms near Katchewanooka Lake.
