It acquired its DO in 1993, and there are currently 2,300 ha under cultivation. There are four subzones La Geria , the largest and located in the south San Bartolom , Las Palmas San Bartolom T as Masdache , in the centre Tinajo , in the centre west Har a Ye , in the north Geography and Soils Lanzarote, the easternmost island in the Canary islands has a unique and spectacular landscape in that the centre of the island is covered by solidified black lava from a volcanic eruption in 1730 36 . This means that nothing can grow there, but around the edges of this mass of lava, conditions are ideal for vines due to the presence of a layer of volcanic ash, known as lapilli or pic n . This layer of ash allows quick absorption of rain, prevents it from evaporating, and helps to maintain constant the temperature of the soil underneath. The vines are planted in holes or ditches so that their roots can reach the soil under the ash. Each hole or ditch is surrounded by a stone wall to protect the vine from the winds. Over 75 of the vines planted are the Malvasia variety. Climate Lanzarote, being the island closest to Africa , is affected by the continent s dry subtropical climate. Frost is unknown on the island. The sea breezes provide a temperate maritime climate. The mean temperatures range from 16 C to 34 C. Rainfall is very low 200 mm and irregular throughout the year. LZ2 is one of the main highway s of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands . It connects the centre of the island to the south. The beginning of the road is in Arrecife, on Jos Antonio street, if you drives on south direction, you can arrive at Paya Blanca, the furthest point you can go. the highway has two stages First there are two lanes for each way from the beginning to los Lirios, T as, here, road turns into one lane for each direction, it,s important to say that there are two speed radars on this road, between Playa del cable and Playa Honda, and Los Lirios residential area, speed is limited in two at 100 km h, you can loose points or pay fine if you throttle over 110 km h. The Lanzarote Hurdle is a National Hunt racing National Hunt Hurdling horse race hurdle race in Great Britain which is open to Horse racing horses aged four years or older. It is run at Kempton Park Racecourse Kempton Park over a distance of about 2 miles and 5 furlongs 4,225 metres , and during its running there are ten hurdles to be jumped. It is a handicap race , and it is scheduled to take place each year in January. The event is named in memory of the racehorse Lanzarote horse Lanzarote 1968 1977 , the winner of the Champion Hurdle in 1974. Lanzarote had a particularly good record in races at Kempton, and he twice won the track s leading hurdle event, the Christmas Hurdle . He finished his hurdling career with a total of 20 wins from 33 starts. After achieving a further three victories as a Steeplechaser chaser , Lanzarote was made the second favourite to win the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1977. However, during that race he broke his near hind leg and had to be Animal euthanasia euthanized . For many years the distance of the Lanzarote Hurdle was set at 2 miles 3,219 metres , and there were eight hurdles to be jumped. The event was temporarily switched to Carlisle Racecourse Carlisle in 2006, and upon its return to Kempton in 2007 there was a substantial increase to its distance. Its regular length was extended by 5 furlongs 1,006 metres , and there were an additional two hurdles to jump. In its analysis of that year s running, the Racing Post commented that this was In effect, a new race. Although run under the Lanzarote handle, this was in no way the same race as the Lanzarote of old.
