  1. Auction catalog

unref date April 2009 An auction catalog or auction catalogue is a catalogue that lists items to be sold at an auction which is written and made available well before the auction date. Auction catalogs for rare and expensive items, such as art , books , jewelry , postage stamp s, and antique furniture , are of interest in and of themselves, for they will frequently include detailed descriptions of the items, their provenance , historical significance, photographs, and so forth. In some cases, auction catalogues are key documentation for rare objects that are in private collections, and make up an important part of the libraries of students and dealers of the rarities. Each entry typically includes a lot number identifying each item uniquely, a detailed textual description, and either an estimated price, or a reserve price below which the item will not be sold. Photographs may appear with the entry, or grouped into a separate section of the catalog for mass produced items like postage stamps, the textual description may be considered sufficient. As a combined information source and sales brochure , an auction catalog must tread a fine line between accuracy and promotion. For instance, any damages or flaws must be described exactly, so that buyers cannot be claim to have been deceived, but at the same time the description will typically include words playing down the bad points as in brownish spot that does not detract from appearance or faint crease, as is common . Similarly, special characteristics are also called out, such as one of only four known examples of this type , or perhaps a photograph of an item of jewelry being worn by a famous person. Auction catalogs may be sent gratis to favored customers, but the better catalogs will cost, sometimes as much or more than a regular book. These kinds of catalogs may in turn be sold by bookstores, or even appear as items in book auctions. Some time after the auction is concluded, recipients of the auction catalogs will receive ...   more details

  1. Paper money catalog

A paper money catalog or banknote catalog or catalogue is a catalog of banknotes and articles related to notable ones. The catalog is an essential tool of collecting as it provides information about the articles that many times cannot be extracted from them directly, such as the amount of banknotes printed. In the 1950s, Robert Friedberg published the Paper Money of the United States . Friedberg devised an organizing number system of all types of U.S. banknotes the system is widely accepted among collectors and dealers to this day, and the volume has been regularly updated. Another pioneer of cataloging banknotes was Albert Pick , a well known German notaphilist born 15 May 1922 in Cologne who published a number of catalogs of European paper money, and, in 1974, the first Standard Catalog of World Paper Money . His collection of over 180,000 banknotes was eventually housed at the Bavarian Mortgages and Exchange Bank Bayerischen Hypotheken und Wechselbank, now HypoVereinsbank . This catalog underwent several incarnations, and currently is published as a three volume group. Volume I, called Specialized Issues, includes notes issued by local authorities, which circulated in a limited area. Volume II called General Issues covers notes issued on a national scope, dated 1368 through 1960. Volume III covers Modern Issues dated 1960 to present. 1. JSR 168 Portlet Catalog

Java Portlet specification JSR 168 i.e. Java sup TM sup Portlet Specification request is basically a standard to determine the development of Java portal components. This specification defines standard application programming interface for Java portlet development. The primary purpose of JSR 168 is to provide a standard programming model for creating Java portlets. Portlets based on JSR 168 standards are known as JSR 168 portlets. Initially Java portal vendors had their own portlet development framework thus those portlets were confined to specific portal servers and couldn t be deployed to the rest of the Java portals. After JSR 168 inception, Java portlets may be deployed on any Java portal servers adhering to JSR 168 specifications. A Portlets Catalog is a set of portlets that are ready to use components for enterprise portals. For those who want to adopt portals certainly need many and variety of portlets to deploy and run. Here Portlets catalog are of use. A JSR 168 portlets catalog makes sure that portlets under this catalog may run on any standards compliant Java portal server. Types of portlet solution vertical domains and technology like collaboration, social networking, community, content management, utility, calendaring, HRM all are available in these catalogs. There are many open source and commercial Portlets Catalog available but JSR 168 based solutions are rare. JSR 168 specifications offer suitability to the developers to reuse the code to maintain a set of JSR 168 compliant portlets. For deployers, it s easy to keep a single set of solution and deploy it on many. SyncEx sup TM sup , a known name in Portal Community, exhibits a range of JSR 168 compliant portlets.
