Limes Transalutanus is a fortified frontier system of the Roman Empire , built on the western edge of Teleorman Teleorman s forests. The frontier was composed by a road following the border, military stonghold, a three metre vallum 10 12 metres wide, reinforced with wood palisade s on stone walls, and also a ditch. The Transalutanus limes was 235  km long, parallel to Olt river at a distance varying from 5 to 30  km east of the river. The construction was started in 107 under the command of Marcius Turbo , and developed under Sextus Julius Severus Iulius Severus 120 126 the final stage of the construction was performed under Septimius Severus 193 211 d.C. . While the lime fruit limes proved unsuitable for high salt conditions, they have seen some commercial development the first commercial crop appeared in markets in Australia in July 2004, and are under consideration for export. The blood lime is smaller than most limes, approximately 4  cm long by 2  cm diameter, and somewhat more sweet and some people might find it more tasty than the standard. The flesh inside a blood lime is red, and the skin is normally too but sometimes the skin is green like the standard lime. The blood lime is a cross between the red finger lime Citrus australasica var. sanguinea and the Ellendale Mandarin. The Ellendale Mandarin is an orange mandarin hybrid. It is made by boiling fresh Lime fruit lime in salt water and sun drying until the insides turn black. The outside color varies from tan to black. It is sold whole or ground. Uses Black limes are usually used in legume , seafood or meat dishes. They are pierced, peeled or crushed before adding them to the dish. After cooking they become softer and edible. They can also be powdered and added to rice dishes. Powdered black lime is also used as an ingredient in Persian Gulf Gulf style baharat a spice mix ture which is also called kabsa or kebsa . It is a traditional ingredient of Arabic cooking and also Iran Persian . Flavor Black limes are strongly flavored. They taste sour and citrus y like a lime but they also taste somewhat smoky and lack the sweetness of fresh limes. Because they are preserved they also have a slightly bitter, fermentation food ferment ed flavor, but the bitter accents are mainly concentrated in the lime s outer skin.
