The Lion Tamer is a 1934 in film 1934 animation animated short film produced by the Van Beuren Studios and directed by Vernon Stallings and starring Charles Correll Charles J. Correll and Freeman Gosden Freeman F. Gosden as the voices of their popular radio characters, Amos n Andy . It was one of two such films made that year, the other being The Rasslin Match . These two shorts and the 1930 in film 1930 live action film Check and Double Check constitute the only visual representations of Amos n Andy prior to the advent of network television . Story 8 minutes 37 seconds long. An Official film Black & White. Kingfish talks Andy into being a lion tamer at a carnival. Andy decides against it till Kingfish tells him that it is a fake lion, then Andy agrees. There is a real lion there but the one Andy is to tame is Crawford in front and Lightning in back in a lion skin. In a cage Andy struts his stuff with a whip while an obviously fake lion tries to avoid the stinging blows with Crawford sticking his head out of the lion s mouth and telling Andy to be careful with that whip . The crowd all black people cheer throughout. The real lion meanwhile chews through its restraining rope and trails Andy who it saw earlier. While Andy is looking elsewhere, the real lion changes places with the fake lion which promptly runs off into the distance . Andy starts flicking his whip again while Amos who is outside the cage tries to warn him that he now faces the real lion. The lion gets upset and Andy then decides to put his head inside the lion s mouth. Opening it, he sees a large tongue instead of Crawford and realises it is the real lion. A fight ensues, hidden by clouds of dust and debris flying, and Amos manages to get Andy out of the cage. When the smoke clears, the triumphant lion is now wearing Andy s bowler and smoking his cigar. Notability date March 2010 Lion Vs. Lion , also known as Roar Of The Lion and Nan bei shi wang , is a Shaw Brothers film written and directed by Hsu Hsia and Chien Yuen Sheng. It is known for its excellent North vs. South lion dance. Lo Meng also gets a chance to display his mantis fist style. Hsu and Chien were two veteran martial art stuntmen of the Hong Kong and Taiwanese circuits. Both men would most likely be recognized in the west for their cameo or secondary roles. Each collaborated with the most elite of kung fu directors and choreographers in the industry. Hsu Hsia is most recognized for his collaboration with Yuen Wo Ping s Drunken Master starring Jackie Chan. He played a character known as the King of Sticks. Chien Yuen Sheng may best be identified as a character called the Sleeping Sword in John Woo s Last Hurrah For Chivalry, however, he does play a role in Lion Vs. Lion as the Manchurian agent tracking the list of rebels. His battle with Wang Lung Wei is one of the films many action highlights. Plot In Lion Vs. Lion , a teacher comes across a secret list of anti Ching rebel names and quickly becomes a target for Ching loyalists. The Five Venoms actor Lo Meng, an ex police officer teams up with kung fu comedic actor Wong Yue, a coffin maker and usual con man, to return a lost package to a mysterious woman Sharon Yueng . Meng and Yue get caught up in the situation further after winning a lion dance contest against Wang Lung Wei in which the prize contains the list he is also after.
