A love triangle between the poor apprentice Mengone, the rich and assured dandy Volpino, and the local apothecary s ward, Grilletta, Lospeziale is a sidesplitting comedy of great warmth and ebullience. Lospeziale prefigures Mozart . It opens with an aria complaining about an apprentice apothecary s job, much like Leporello s opening aria in Don Giovanni . The trouser role of Volpino reminds one of Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro and the young lovers use of disguises will call Cosi fan tutte to mind. The opera is scored for two flutes, two oboes, bassoon, two horns, strings, continuo. Mama Lo s was a popular and well known soul food restaurant located in Gainesville, Florida . It was founded by, operated by, and named for Lorene Mama Lo Alexander in 1975 until her retirement in 2005. Located only a few blocks from the University of Florida , the establishment proved popular with students, townsfolk and travellers alike. It was also frequented by many local musicians such as Bo Diddley , Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Sister Hazel . With reasonably priced lunch dishes, UF alumni over the decades reminisce about their favorite Mama Lo s servings, such as chicken and rice, broccoli casserole, and sweet tea. It is said that through the Southern, home style cooking Mama Lo served to loyal customers for over three decades, she put her four children through college in Gainesville. Mama Lo s was located at 618 NW 6th Street in Gainesville, Florida. Lorene Mama Lo Alexander died in 2007, at the age of 85.
