Founded in July 1879 as The LogCabin , the newspaper is operated by Morris Communications Morris Publishing Group , which assumed full ownership in the mid 1990s, and its publisher is Rick Fahr. The founding publisher, Able F. Livingston, was a former Whig Party United States Whig Party member, who used the party s symbol the logcabin as the name for his new enterprise. Ownership changed a handful of times early in the newspaper s existence, eventually passing to the family of J.W. Robins in 1894. Underhill, a one time owner of The LogCabin , purchased assets of a smaller Conway newspaper, The Democrat , which operated from 1881 to 1885 and had been revived in 1899. LogCabin Syrup is a brand of pre packaged syrup s owned by Pinnacle Foods . LogCabin syrup was introduced in 1887. Grocer Patrick J. Towle, who lived in the village of Forest Lake, Minnesota , named the syrup in honor of his childhood hero, President Abraham Lincoln , and his childhood in a logcabin. The brand was acquired by General Foods in 1927 and remained one of that company s major brands for decades. General Foods merged with Kraft in 1990, and Kraft sold LogCabin to Aurora Foods in 1997. Pinnacle Foods acquired Aurora in 2003 after it went bankrupt. The newest version of LogCabin Syrup has eliminated high fructose corn syrup, believed by some to increase the risk of obesity.
