The London 1980 International Stamp Exhibition was an international philatelic exhibition stamp exhibition held under FIP F d ration Internationale de Philat lie patronage. It was held at Earls Court from the 6 14 May 1980. Relevant British Stamp Issues A 50p stamp and miniature sheet, both depicting London landmarks, were issued on 9 April to publicise the exhibition S.G. 1118 1119 . They were designed by Jeffrey Matthews and were printed by Harrison and Sons using the line engraving process. Previous stamp issues promoting the exhibition were the 1978 Historic Buildings and 1979 Sir Rowland Hill miniature sheets S.G. 1058 and 1099 . A 10p stamp booklet was also issued. Special Handstamps Visitors to the exhibition were able to obtain special handstamp cancellations for first day cover s and other items. Unreferenced date April 2009 The Glasgow InternationalExhibition Cup was a large decorative cup with all sorts of flowing colors reminiscent of a rainbow, originally won by Rangers F.C. Rangers in 1901 defeating Celtic F.C. Celtic in the final of a tournament arranged as part of the second Glasgow InternationalExhibition held at Kelvingrove Park. In the wake of the first Ibrox disaster in 1902, Rangers arranged a tournament to provide funds for the victims relatives. Rangers announced that the Glasgow Exhibition Cup won in the previous year would be awarded to the winner. Rangers and Celtic were joined by Everton F.C. Everton and Sunderland A.F.C. Sunderland and with Rangers defeating Everton and Celtic defeating Sunderland, an old firm final was set up. Celtic won the final 3&ndash 2 and were awarded the cup. Celtic were then surprised at the end of the season when Rangers directors who assumed the cup would be returned arrived to take back the cup. Celtic believed they were the rightful owners after winning the cup fairly in a properly organised competition. Lawyer s letters were sent back and forth between the clubs with both clubs claiming ownership. Rumour has it that letters are still received by Celtic from Rangers demanding that they give the cup back over a century later.
