Multiple issues unreferenced December 2009 context December 2010 Low pressure discharges are discharges made under gas pressures from a few millitorr to a little less than atmospheric. They have the benefit of less power requirement of sustenance of the discharge as volume recombination rates are lower. It is easier to achieve uniform discharges at low pressure. Normally, the system is pumped down and only necessary plasma gases are then flown into the plasma chamber. Argon is a typical background gas because it has low ionization potential and therefore is easier to break down and sustain. 1. Low pressure hydrocephalus

Orphan date May 2011 No footnotes article date April 2011 Low pressure hydrocephalus is a condition whereby Ventricle brain ventricles are enlarged and the individual experiences severe dementia , inability to walk, and incontinence despite very low intracranial pressure . Low pressure hydrocephalus appears to be a more acute form of normal pressure hydrocephalus . If not diagnosed in a timely fashion, the individual runs the risk of remaining in the low pressure hydrocephalic state or LPHS. Shunt medical Shunt revisions, even when they are set to drain at a low ICP, are not always effective. The pressure in the brain does not get high enough to allow the Cerebrospinal fluid CSF to drain in a shunt system, therefore the shunt is patent, but malfunctioning in LPH. In cases of LPH, chronic Infarction infarcts can also develop along the corona radiata in response to the tension in the brain as the ventricles increase in size. Some of the reasons individuals develop LPH include Trauma medicine trauma , tumour , haemorrhage , meningitis , whole brain radiation, as well as other brain pathology that affects the compliance of the brain parenchyma . One treatment for the LPHS is External ventricular drain EVD set at negative pressures. According to Pang & Altschuler et al, a controlled, steady, negative pressure siphoning with EVD, carefully monitored with partial CT scans is a safe and effective way of treating LPH. 1. Low pressure receptor zones

Low pressure receptor zones are areas with baroreceptor s located in the venae cavae and the pulmonary veins , and in the Atrium heart atria . They are also called volume receptors. These receptors respond to changes in the wall tension, which is proportional to the filling state of the low pressure side of circulation below 60mmHg . Their impulses regulate the secretion of antidiuretic hormone ADH Vasopressin , renin and aldosterone . An elevated atrial pressure produces a decrease in Vasopressin ADH and aldosterone secretion. The decrease in vasopressin secretion results in an increase in the volume of urine excreted, serving to lower blood pressure. In addition, stretching of atrial receptors increases secretion of atrial natriuretic peptide ANP , which promotes increased water and sodium excretion through the urine . ref Principles of medical physiology by A Fonyo page 577 ref In the right atrium , the stretch receptors occur at the junction of the venae cavae. In the left atrium , the junction is at the pulmonary veins. Increasing stretch of the receptors stimulates both an increase in heart rate and a decrease in vasopressin Vasopressin ADH secretion from posterior pituitary. See also bainbridge reflex . 1. Low pressure molding

Low Pressure Molding LPM with polyamide and polyolefin hot melt materials is a process typically used to encapsulate and environmentally protect electronic components such as circuit boards . The purpose is to protect electronics against moisture, dust dirt and vibration. Low Pressure Molding is also used for sealing connectors and molding grommets and strain reliefs. Key to this process are the raw materials and specialized molding equipment. Dimer acid based polyamide materials, better known as hot melt s, are used as molding compounds. They are thermoplastic s i.e. you heat them up until they are liquid and they solidify simply by cooling down. These polyamide materials differ from other thermoplastics in two main areas One Viscosity At processing temperature 410F 210C the viscosity is very low, typically around 3,000 centipoise similar to pancake syrup . 1. Low blood pressure cascade

Orphan date February 2009 Unreferenced date December 2007 Expert subject multiple Medicine Anatomy date February 2009 When blood pressure falls many physiological cascades commence in order to return the blood pressure to a more appropriate level. The blood pressure fall is detected by a decrease in blood flow and thus a decrease in Glomerular filtration rate GFR . Decrease in GFR is sensed as a decrease in Na sup sup levels by the macula densa . The Macula Densa cause an increase in Na sup sup reabsorption, which causes water to follow in via osmosis and leads to an ultimate increase in blood plasma plasma volume. Further, the macula densa releases adenosine which causes constriction of the afferent arterioles. At the same time, the juxtaglomerular cells sense the decrease in blood pressure and release renin . Renin converts angiotensinogen inactive form to angiotensin I active form . Angiotensin I flows in the bloodstream until it reaches the capillaries of the lungs where angiotensin converting enzyme ACE acts on it to convert it into angiotensin II . Angiotensin II is a vasoconstrictor which will increase bloodflow to the heart and subsequently the preload, ultimately increasing the cardiac output . Angiotensin II also causes an increase in the release of aldosterone from the adrenal gland s. Aldosterone further increases the Na sup sup and H sub 2 sub O reabsorption in the distal convoluted tubule of the nephron . 1. Pressure experiment

Refimprove date December 2009 Pressure experiments are experiment s performed at pressure s lower or higher than atmospheric pressure , called low pressure experiments and high pressure experiments , respectively. Pressure experiment are necessary because substances behave differently at different pressures. For example, water boils at a lower temperature at lower pressures. The equipment used for pressure experiments depends on whether the pressure is to be increased or decreased and by how much. A vacuum pump is used to remove the air out of a vacuum vessel for low pressure experiments. High pressures can be created with a piston Pneumatic cylinder cylinder apparatus, up to nowrap 5 Pascal unit GPa nowrap 50 000 bar and nowrap 2000 Celsius C .
