Unreferenced date June 2009 Notability date June 2009 merge Mick Harris date January 2012 Lull is a dark ambient side project of Mick Harris . Lull was conceived in late 91 by former Napalm Death drummer Mick Harris who also created the ambient dub outfit Scorn band Scorn in an attempt to create music that would stretch, if not forsake entirely, the structures of conventional music by developing and exploring sound without beats. Harris initial foray as Lull into low frequency sound exploration was issued in late 92 under the title Dreamt About Dreaming on the respected underground Sentrax label. In between his Scorn commitments, the ever prolific Harris continued to develop Lull by recording and releasing scores of 7 s and compilation tracks, as well as two more full lengths that each punctuated another stage of his progression. Lull favors somber, minimalistic drones that create a dark, other worldly atmosphere. Its sound is generally amusical, and very experimental. Borrowing heavily from early works of Brian Eno , Lull s music can be considered either background or foreground listening. A similar sounding album entitled Somnific Flux was recorded by Harris and Bill Laswell in 1995. Manifold Records is a United States US based record label and mailorder store specializing in experimental music experimental , ambient music ambient and other hard to define audio materials. Begun in 1993 in music 1993 by writer and zine publisher Vince Harrigan , the label has released works by Gravitar , Final band Final Justin Broadrick of Godflesh , Mick Harris , Lull band Lull , Steve Roach musician Steve Roach , Jeph Jerman , Maeror Tri , Ultra Milkmaids , Maurizio Bianchi , Aube and others. The label was briefly a critical favorite during the mid 1990s, being at the forefront of a short lived genre called Isolationism through the label s unusual compilations. These compilations were novel in that they featured traditionally Ambient and New Age artists alongside Noisier, edgier acts and yet seemed to work as cohesive documents. The label has also released numerous special packaging releases compact discs in metal sheathes, vinyl records attached to saw blades, water filled plastic sleeves, etc. The Manifold Records label was never been very prolific or widely distributed, likely due to the unusual nature of much of the material and the labels seeming inability to stay within any genre from release to release. Manifold Records ceased operating a mailorder website in 2007. The Manifold Records label continues, as does limited online sales of releases through other distributors and Ebay. File LaRicercaDellaLinguaPerfetta.jpg thumb right 1st edition La ricerca della lingua perfetta nella cultura europea The Search for the Perfect Language in the European Culture trans. J. Fentress is a 1993 book by Umberto Eco on a relatively marginal theme in the history of ideas . The writing is essayistic and uses the myth of Babylon Babel as a paradigm for connecting the linguistic and social practices. Emphasizing that the quest for a perfect language has never been devoid of ideological motivation, Eco outlines some counterarguments to the idea and suggests that an International Auxiliary Language is a more realistic project. He points that the impossible quest has had some useful side effects taxonomy, scientific notations etc. but dwells mostly on exotic proposals. Lengthy passages are devoted to Dante , Ramon Llull Lull , Kircher , various 17th century authors and a few less known names from later times. The contemporary project for a politically and culturally unified Europe provides the perspective for a more serious consideration of the theme. Image Otozoum tracks.JPG thumb right 250px Otozoum tracks in the Dinosaur State Park and Arboretum Otozoum giant animal tracks are Jurassic age, fossil ized footprints and other markings in sandstones. They were made by heavy, bipedal animals probably dinosaur s with a short stride that walked on four toes directed forward. Otozoum tracks were discovered by American paleontology paleontologist Edward Hitchcock , who described Otozoum as the most extraordinary track yet brought to light in this valley the Connecticut River representing a bipedal animal... distinguished from all others... in the sandstone of New England . In 1953, Yale University paleontologist Richard Swann Lull revised Hitchcock s work, suggesting that the track maker might have been a Prosauropoda prosauropod . Other sources have been proposed, including a crocodile like animal e.g. the phytosaur Rutidon , or an ornithopod dinosaur, although recent osteological comparisons e.g., Rainforth, 2003 support Lull s hypothesis that the track maker was indeed a prosauropod. ref name Rainforth2003 cite doi 10.1111 1475 4983.00320 ref Hitchcock noted the excellent preservation of some tracks, preserving details of the skin, pads, and even impressions of Jurassic raindrops. Excellent Otozoum specimens from the Portland Quarry may be seen in the Dinosaur State Park and Arboretum in Rocky Hill, Connecticut .
