Lumsden s Horse was the name given to the Indian Mounted Infantry Corps, which was formed in Calcutta in 1899 by Lt Colonel Dugald Mactavish Lumsden of the Assam Valley Light Horse . The new corps was raised from volunteers from various existing Indian regiments, including the Assam Valley Light Horse. Colonel Lumsden contributed 50,000 rupees. He was also known by his nickname Snowy and was a cousin of teammate Dick Lee footballer Dick Lee . A utility player, Lumsden started his Collingwood career in 1910 but struggled to hold his place in the side with just 15 games in three seasons. As a result he crossed to Essendon in 1913 where he played mainly as a forward, topping their goalkicking in 1914 with 28 goals. He had more success in his second stint at Collingwood, getting regular games and playing in the club s 1917 and 1919 premierships, in a forward pocket . Roddy Lumsden born 1966 is a Scottish poet, who was born in St Andrews . He has published five collections of poetry, a number of chapbooks and a collection of trivia, as well as editing a generational anthology of British and Irish poets of the 1990s and 2000s, Identity Parade , among other anthologies. Background He lives in London where he teaches for The Poetry School and independently. He has done editing work on several prize winning poetry collections and the Pilot series of chapbooks by poets under 30 for Tall Lighthouse . He is organiser and host of the monthly reading series BroadCast in London. Since 2010, he has been Poetry Editor for Salt Publishing, for whom he is also the Series Editor of The Best British Poetry anthologies. Lumsden is former Vice Chairman of the Poetry Society Poetry Society of Great Britain . He was awarded an Arts Council of England International Fellowship at the Banff Centre in Ontario in 2001 and has also carried out several residency projects, including being poet in residence to the music industry and in a five star hotel and golf resort. He also works as a puzzle and quiz writer and a popular reference compiler and editor. Lumsden received an Eric Gregory Award in 1991. Having commanded a regiment of Scottish soldiers in Swedish service, and fought at the Battle of L tzen 1632 Battle of Lutzen , he left the Swedish Army in 1639 like many Scottish officers and returned to Scotland. He commanded troops during the Bishop s Wars , and in 1644 he was Sergeant Major General of Foot in the Covenanter Army which invaded England during the First English Civil War . He played a major part in the Battle of Marston Moor .
