There are two parts to the check hook. The first part consists of a regular hook boxing hook . The second, trickier part involves the Footwork martial arts footwork . As the opponent lunges in, the boxer should throw the hook and pivot on his left foot and Swing boxing swing his right foot 180 degrees around. If executed correctly, the aggressive boxer will lunge in and sail harmlessly past his opponent like a bull missing a matador. This is rarely seen in professional boxing as it requires a great disparity in skill level to execute. 1. Handspring (gymnastics)

Unreferenced date December 2009 File Front handspring.gif right thumb A front handspring , performed as part of an acro dance routine. A handspring is an acrobatic move in which a person executes a complete revolution of the body by lunging headfirst from an upright position into a handstand and then pushing off i.e., springing from the floor with the hands so as to leap back to an upright position. Handsprings are performed in various physical activities, including acro dance , cheerleading and gymnastics . In artistic gymnastics , handsprings are commonly performed in the floor exercise , vault gymnastics vault , and balance beam events. The direction of body rotation in a handspring may be either forward or backward, resulting in a front handspring or back handspring , respectively. In a back handspring which is also known by various other names, including flip flops the performer does not see where the hands will land until after the move has begun. Body movement may be terminated upon completion of a handspring, or the performer s momentum may be leveraged so as to immediately perform another handspring or other rotational move e.g., a Gymnastics flip flip such as a tuck or layout . Similarly, another rotational move e.g., a roundoff may precede a handspring in order to develop sufficient momentum for the handspring. 1. Lunge (fencing)

File Fencing PSF .png thumb right 250px The fencer on the right is executing a lunge as the fencer on the left Parry fencing parries . The lunge is the fundamental offensive fencing technique used with all three fencing weapons foil fencing foil , p e and sabre . It is common to all contemporary fencing styles. Background A number of things happen at almost the same time during the execution of a lunge The blade arm extends for the earliest possible arrival on the defender. The front leg kicks forward, with the heel barely skimming the floor. The back leg straightens powerfully and the back arm is forcefully thrown straight back, pushing the body explosively forward. The cut sabre or thrust all three weapons arrives on the defender. The front heel reaches its end and comes firmly into contact with the floor. The front leg absorbs the body s forward momentum as the front foot rocks forward to full contact with the floor, ending with the front knee directly over the heel and the front foot pointed straight ahead. The back arm, shoulders, hips, and the front thigh end up parallel with the floor in a stable and balanced position. The lunge is the most basic and most important method of offensive scoring. It is fundamental to the attack, just as the guard is fundamental to the parry system. A lunge delivers the attack instantaneously and without any warning. It also allows time and a firm position for the fencer to recover safely in the event of failure. History The characteristic motion of the modern lunge traces its ancestry to European swordplay of the 16th and 17th centuries. Scholars of fence such as Egerton Castle attribute the first true lunging attack to Angelo Viggiani and his Lo Schermo of 1575 the punta supramano , or overhand thrust . A simple advance or pass during the thrusting attack is common as early as the Royal Armouries Ms. I.33 , roughly dated to the mid 14th century. References Selberg, Charles A. 1993 The Revised Foil . 1. Tempo map

A tempo map is a part of a MIDI file. Musical events occur as a succession of events in time, whose speed is tempo . Music also organizes these according to a framework called meter music meter , by partitioning time into patterns of strong and weak beats. MIDI s tempo map specifies the speed at which a file s events are transmitted within this framework their tempo. If a file plays at a fixed tempo, its map is a horizontal line e.g., measures 38 & 39 in this part of a MIDI Music sequencer sequencer s display of the end of J.S. Bach s prelude 8 from Book I of the Well tempered Clavier Image WTCIPR8end.jpg 800px But, if the tempo fluctuates as a function of time, such as in accelerando , Glossary of musical terminology A allargando , or rubato , the line is respectively an upward or downward climbing one, or in the latter case, a complex curve, as seen here in measures 35 & 36 at left, or the ending in measures 40 & 41. In most music, aesthetics demand that this flow of events not be linear, but fluctuate according to the expression the music intends to convey. Hence, a very emotional piece such as the preceding is excerpted from, although playing at a base tempo of MM 50 which means 50 quarter notes per minute, holding back or lunging forward according to expressive impulse can result in a tempo map similar to that seen above It flexes tempo down for the intermediate cadence at left, and again for the final allargando at the right. After recording a sequence in real time at a fixed tempo, or composing it using step record mode, well written MIDI sequencer software like MasterTracks Pro will have functionality to edit the MIDI tempo map, so as to result in a natural, expressive result, not a machine like one, when playing the file. If the sore tooth is pulled, the mouth will snap shut, and the person who caused the mouth to shut is the loser. The travel version of Crocodile Dentist featured slightly different gameplay, where instead of pulling the teeth out of the crocodile s mouth the players had to push the crocodile s teeth down into its mouth. Development Crocodile Dentist went through several changes during its development phase. Fuhrer and his technicians were told to tweak the length and speed of the crocodile s lunging motion so that the toy would not cause eye injuries. Fuhrer also added a pair of plastic tweezers to quell fears that children would hurt their fingers. Hook punches can be thrown by either the lead hand or the rear hand, but the term used without a qualifier usually refers to a lead hook. 1. Quadrupedalism

Image Zebra sideview.jpg thumb 200px right The Zebra is an example of a quadruped. Quadrupedalism is a form of Terrestrial locomotion in animals land animal locomotion using four Limb anatomy limbs or leg anatomy legs . An animal or machine that usually moves in a quadrupedal manner is known as a quadruped , meaning four feet from the Latin quad for four and ped for foot . The majority of quadrupeds are vertebrate animals, including mammal s such as cattle , dog s and cat s, and reptile s, like lizard s. Bird s, human s, insect s, crustacean s, and snake s are not quadrupeds. However, there are some exceptions. For example, among the insects, the praying mantis is a quadruped. A few bird s may use quadrupedal movement in some circumstances, for example the shoebill will sometimes use its wings to right itself after lunging at prey. ref http scienceblogs.com tetrapodzoology 2008 12 balaeniceps rex.php more ref Quadrupeds vs. tetrapods main tetrapod Not all four limbed animals are quadrupeds. Although arms and wings are, in the evolution ary sense, modified legs, four limbed vertebrates are in fact classed as tetrapod s, members of the Linnaean taxonomy taxonomic unit Tetrapoda . These include all vertebrate s with quadrupedal ancestors, including mammals, reptiles, amphibia ns, and birds. The distinction between quadrupeds and tetrapods is important in evolutionary biology, particularly in the context of biped s, winged animals, and animals whose limbs have adapted to other roles e.g. fin s, in the case of cetaceans and pinniped s . All of these animals are tetrapods, but none is a quadruped. Even snake s, whose limbs have become vestigial structure vestigial or lost entirely, are nevertheless tetrapods. image Owen Glynne Jones2.jpg 150px thumb Portrait and signature of Owen Glynne Jones from his book Rock climbing in the English Lake District Owen Glynne Jones 2 November 1867 28 August 1899 was a Wales Welsh rock climber and mountaineer. He established many new routes in the Lake District and elsewhere, often climbing with George and Ashley Abraham , brothers who photographed the climbs for posterity. Rock climbing Jones was born in London , England , the son of a Wales Welsh carpenter builder, and took a first class Honours degree in experimental physics . Not able to obtain a professorship, he became physics master at the City of London School . He began climbing in 1888, and was among those pioneers who first perceived rock climbing as a sport. As a climber, he had an athletic climbing style, and is considered by many to be one of the first rock gymnasts . Although Jones said little in his writings about his training tactics other than working with dumbbells there are several stories regarding his gymnastic feats ref http www128.pair.com r3d4k7 Bouldering History1.1.html Bouldering History ref image Owen Glynne Jones 20.jpg 150px thumb Photograph from Jones s book, Rock climbing in the English Lake District He joked and called himself, the Only Genuine Jones , and he was famous at Wasdale Head in the Lake District for his gymnastic stunts around the inn. Generally talusitis is referred to by the body part involved, such as Achilles tendinitis affecting the Achilles tendon , or patellar talusitis jumper s knee , affecting the patellar tendon . It was believed that talusitis was due to inflammation of a tendon in the ankle, although this is coming into doubt. NO SOURCE, AT THIS POINT DUBIOUS Chronic overuse of tendons leads to microscopic tears within the collagen matrix, which gradually weakens the tissue. Individual variation in frequency and severity of tendinitis will vary depending on the type, frequency and severity of exercise or use for example, rock climbers tend to develop tendinitis in their fingers, swimmers in their shoulders. Talusitis is a common injury, particularly in sports that involve lunging and jumping while patella r tendinitis is common among basketball and volleyball players owing to the amount of jumping and landing. Swelling in a region of micro damage or partial tear can be detected visually or by palpation touch . Increased water content and disorganized collagen matrix in tendon lesion s may be detected by medical ultrasonography ultrasonography or magnetic resonance imaging . Symptoms can vary from an ache or pain and swelling to the local area of the ankles, or a burning that surrounds the whole joint . With this condition, the pain is usually worse during and after activity, and the tendon and joint area can become stiffer the following day as swelling impinges on the movement of the tendon. Many patients report stressful situations in their lives in correlation with the beginnings of pain which may contribute to the symptoms. Treatment Due to their highly sp ...   more details
