Unreferenced date December 2009 The Phare de Sainte Marie is a lighthouse built to mark the Old Port of Marseilles harbor of Marseille , France. Completed in 1855, it is made of natural finished local limestone and stands 70 feet high. It is located at the north side of the Passe de la Joliette. This is at the southern entrance to the series of bassins that form the harbor. It was upgraded to electrical illumination in 1922 but is now inactive. This lighthouse was a featured clue box destination for teams to find on the fourth season of the popular reality television show, The Amazing Race . The season s fourth episode was watched by millions on June 19, 2003, and is currently in worldwide syndication. Marie Madeleine de Montaigu n e Le Croix 1692 1736 was a Danish actor. She was employed first as a court actor, and later became one of the first female actors to perform on a Public theatre in Denmark. Biography Marie le Croix was born in Denmark as the child of parents of French origin. In 1715, she married Rene Magnon de Montaigu 1661 1737 , the director of the French troupe that performed for the royal court, and the year after, she became a member of the trope and employed as court actor. In 1721, the French troupe, which had performed for the royal court in Copenhagen since 1682, fired by the king, who wished to hire an Italian Opera trope instead. The French actors, who in many cases had lived there for generations, did not all wish to leave Denmark. Rene Magnon and another French immigrant, Etienne Capion, then asked permission to open a Public theatre. They were given royal permission and in 1722, the first Public theatre was opened in Copenhagen on Lille Gr nnegade , the first theatre open to the public in the Danish language. Capion was the director, Magnon was responsible for the actors, and Marie Madeleine became the first actress to have performed for the Danish Public on an official theatre. The female actors were few among them were also Helene le Coffre, Maren Magdalene Lerche and Marie Madeleines own dotter Frederikke Sophie. In 1728 the theatre was closed and Madeleine and her husband lived under difficult circumstances as French language teachers. Marie served as regent for her younger brother Baldwin II of Courtenay and styled herself as the Empress of Constantinople. Family and background Her parents were successive rulers of the Latin Empire of Constantinople . Her father was chosen as an Emperor in 1216. In 1217, while attempting to reach Constantinople by land, Peter was taken captive by Theodore Komnenos Doukas , ruler of Despotate of Epirus Epirus . He spent the rest of his life in captivity. Yolanda reached Constantinople instead and took over the Empire. Marie s mother Yolanda was de jure a Regent in name of her husband but ruled alone from 1217 to 1219. Among the alliances negotiated by her was one with Theodore I Lascaris of the Empire of Nicaea .
