Image MarkovBlanket.png frame In a Bayesian network, the Markov blanket of node A includes its parents, children and the other parents of all of its children. In machine learning , the Markov blanket for a Vertex graph theory node math A math in a Bayesian network is the set of nodes math partial A math composed of math A math s parents, its children, and its children s other parents. In a Markov network , the Markov blanket of a node is its set of neighbouring nodes. A Markov blanket may also be denoted by math MB A math . Every set of nodes in the network is conditional independence conditionally independent of math A math when conditioned on the set math partial A math , that is, when conditioned on the Markov blanket of the node math A math . The probability has the Markov property formally, for distinct nodes math A math and math B math math Pr A mid partial A , B Pr A mid partial A . math The Markov blanket of a node contains all the variables that shield the node from the rest of the network. This means that the Markov blanket of a node is the only knowledge needed to predict the behaviour of that node. The term was coined by Pearl in 1988. ref Pearl, J. Probabilistic Reasoning in Intelligent Systems , Morgan Kaufmann, 1988. ref In a Bayesian network, the values of the parents and children of a node evidently give information about that node however, its children s parents also have to be included, because they can be used to explain away the node in question. 1. Blanket loan

globalize date December 2010 No footnotes date November 2010 A blanket loan , or blanket mortgage loan mortgage , is a type of loan used to fund the purchase of more than one piece of real property . Blanket loans are popular with builders and developers who buy large tracts of land, then subdivide them to create many individual parcels to be gradually sold one at a time. Rather than securing a new mortgage each time a portion of the development is sold, the borrower uses the blanket loan to buy them all. Once a parcel is sold, a portion of the mortgage is released, with the rest of the mortgage remaining intact. Traditional mortgages typically have a due on sale clause , which stipulates that if property secured by the mortgage is sold, the entire outstanding mortgage debt must be paid in full immediately. With a blanket mortgage, a release clause allows the sale of portions of the secured property and corresponding partial repayment of the loan. This is done to facilitate purchases and sales of multiple units of property with the convenience of a single mortgage. A builder, for example, might use a blanket mortgage to pay for construction of several homes in one neighborhood. When a home is sold, the portion of the mortgage that was used to fund that home is paid back to the lender, and then retired. The remaining outstanding balance is adjusted accordingly, and the blanket mortgage continues phase by phase in that manner, until all houses are sold and the entire mortgage is repaid and retired. 1. Blanket training

refimprove date March 2010 Blanket training is an approach used to train toddlers and pre schoolers to attain self discipline. Proponents believe that with consistent training, the child will acquire an ability to play contentedly and quietly by him herself for an extended period of time. A parent designates a certain amount of time usually 15 45 minutes, depending on the age of the child that a child must sit by him herself on a blanket on the floor. The child is not permitted to leave the parameters of the blanket, and may play quietly with a toy while seated on the blanket. The desired outcome is that after daily training in this manner, eventually the child will sit and play quietly on the blanket whenever and wherever the child is asked to do so. A blanket is used in this method of training because of its easy portability and accessibility in almost any time or location, such as during meal preparations, meetings, ceremonies, and medical appointments. Known practitioners of the practice include the Duggars ref Duggar, Jim Bob and Duggar, Michelle. 2008 The Duggars 20 and Counting Raising One of America s Largest Families How they Do It ref Opponents of blanket training call it emotionally abusive. 1. Blanket primary

The blanket primary is a system used for selecting political party candidates in a primary election in the USA . In a blanket primary, voters may pick one candidate for each office without regard to party lines for instance, a voter might select a Democratic Party United States Democratic candidate for governor and a Republican Party United States Republican candidate for senator. The candidates with the highest votes by party for each office advance to the general election, as the respective party s nominee. It differs from the open primary &ndash in open primaries voters may pick candidates regardless of their own party registration, but may only choose among candidates from a single party of the voter s choice. A blanket primary gives registered voters maximum choice in selecting candidates. Compared to other primary systems, the blanket primary is less restrictive for voters because it does not limit them to selecting from only one party s candidates. Mainstream political parties, however, saw this as a disadvantage because it discouraged party loyalty, especially among moderate voters who did not identify strongly with either party. The system also has potential for tactical voting Voters opposed to one party might disingenuously choose a weaker candidate from that party, setting the candidate up to lose in the general election . 1. Thermal blanket

about the temperature sensor enclosure thermowell the personal protective covering space blanket Cleanup date May 2010 Unreferenced date November 2011 A thermal blanket is a device used in in situ thermal desorption ISTD to clean large area soil contamination. The primary function of a thermal blanket is to heat the soil to the boiling point of the contaminants usually 800 to 1,000 C . The contaminants break down. A vacuum pulls the resulting gas along with some contaminants into a separate air cleaner that may use various methods, such as carbon filters and high heat ovens, to completely destroy the contaminants. Deep contaminations are handled using a similar method with a deep penetrating heat source. This is commonly referred to as an ISTD thermal well. Concerns There is a concern that as a contaminant becomes heated, it may leak outside of the area of the thermal blanket. Therefore, the blanket must completely cover the contaminated area and have a strong enough vacuum to prohibit the spread of contaminations. Incomplete destruction of contaminants may lead to the introduction of Dioxins and dioxin like compounds dioxins and furans into the air. This method has not been effectively tested on organic contaminants. See also Soil contamination References cite journal author I. E. T. Iben, W. A. Edelstein, R. B. Sheldon, A. P. Shapiro, E. E. In the UK and Commonwealth, electric blanket commonly refers to an electric mattress pad , which is placed below the bottom bed sheet. Electric blankets usually have a control unit which adjusts the amount of heat the blanket produces. Blankets for larger sized beds often have separate controls for each side of the bed. The electric blanket may be used to pre heat the bed before use or to keep the occupant warm while in bed. Modern electric blankets have carbon fibre wires. These blankets usually work on 24 volts instead of the 110 240 volts. Therefore, they are advertised as being a safer, more efficient and more comfortable alternative. Image Peatcuttingulsta.jpg thumb Blanket bog on the Yell, Shetland Yell , Shetland Islands , with some peat working Blanket bog or blanket mire , also known as featherbed bog , is an area of peat land, forming where there is a climate of high rain fall and a low level of evapotranspiration , allowing peat to develop not only in wet hollows but over large expanses of undulating ground. The blanketing of the ground with a variable depth of peat gives the habitat type its name. Blanket bogs are found extensively throughout the northern hemisphere well studied examples are found in Ireland and Great Britain Britain , but vast areas of the Russia n and North America n tundra also qualify as blanket bogs. In the southern hemisphere they are less well developed due to the relatively low latitude s of the main land areas, though similar environments are reported in Patagonia , the Falkland Islands and New Zealand . The blanket bogs known as featherbeds on subantarctic Macquarie Island occur on raised marine terrace s they may be up to 5  m deep, tremble or quake when walked on and can be hazardous to cross. ref cite book title The Antarctic Dictionary A Complete Guide to Antarctic English author Hince, Bernadette year 2000 series publisher CSIRO Publishing location Melbourne isbn 0643102329 page 126 url ref It is doubtful whether the extremely impoverished flora of Antarctica is sufficiently well developed to be considered as blanket bogs.
