MathematicallyCorrect is a website created by educators, parents, mathematicians, and scientists who were concerned about the direction of reform mathematics curriculum curricula based on NCTM standards . Created in 1997, it was a frequently cited website in the so called Math wars , and was actively updated until 2003. Although MathematicallyCorrect had a national scope, much of its focus was on advocating against mathematics curricula prevalent in California in the mid 1990s. When California reversed course and adopted more traditional mathematics texts 2001 2002 , MathematicallyCorrect changed its focus to reviewing the new text books. Convinced that the choices were adequate, the website went largely dormant. MathematicallyCorrect maintained a large section of critical articles and reviews for a number of math programs. Most of the program opposed by MathematicallyCorrect had been developed from research projects funded by the National Science Foundation. Most of these programs also claimed to have been based on the 1989 National Council of Teachers of Mathematics 1989 Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics published by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics . Orphan date February 2009 Original research date September 2007 Decay correct is a method of adjusting the measurements of radioactive decay obtained at two different time points so that they may be used as a single data set. If a chemical compound is tagged with a radioactive isotope then the amount of radiation released in a period of time is proportional to the number of atoms of the isotope but as time passes some of the isotope decays and the isotope remaining which is measured by the radiation is no longer the same as the amount of compound present. Decay correction is a mathematical method of determining the amount of compound present given the amount of isotope remaining. Use For example, in biodistribution studies, it is common to track the movement of a compound of interest through an animal. To measure the compound it is chemically joined to a radionuclide . Thus the energy measured from the radioactive decay is related to the quantity of the compound of interest. Samples may be collected and counted at short time intervals ex 1 and 4 hours . The next samples from another set of animals injected at the same starting time may not be collected and counted until 24, 48, or 72 hours. Because isotopes for therapy and imaging often have a relatively short half life under 10 days , it is necessary to adjust the data in order to compare all the time points. For example, the isotope copper 64, commonly used in medical research, has a half life of 12.7 hours. If you inject a large group of animals at time zero , but measure the radioactivity in their organs at two later times, the later groups must be decay corrected to adjust for the decay that has occurred between the two .... Example The decay correct might be used this way a group of 20 animals is injected with a compound ... is 2.82. A simple way to check if you are using the decay correct formula right is to put in the value ... correct we see that the concentration is 0.5 2.82 so it has actually increased by 40 in that period ... more details

In 1998, it moved again, this time to Vanderbilt University . SMPY is the longest running longitudinal study of gifted children in history. Subjects are identified by high scores in the SAT , perhaps the most extensively normed psychometric test in existence, which they take at or before the age of 13. There are several groups of subjects those who score in the top 1 , the top 0.5 , and the top 0.01 . This latter group is one in ten thousand, which makes SMPY perhaps the only reliable study of profoundly gifted youth. In computational learning theory , probably approximately correct learning PAC learning is a framework for mathematical analysis of machine learning . Communications of the ACM, 27, 1984. ref In this framework, the learner receives samples and must select a generalization function called the hypothesis from a certain class of possible functions. The goal is that, with high probability the probably part , the selected function will have low generalization error the approximately correct part . The learner must be able to learn the concept given any arbitrary approximation ratio, probability of success, or Empirical distribution function distribution of the samples . The model was later extended to treat noise misclassified samples . An important innovation of the PAC framework is the introduction of computational complexity theory concepts to machine learning. In particular, the learner is expected to find efficient functions time and space requirements bounded to a polynomial of the example size , and the learner itself must implement an efficient procedure requiring an example count bounded to a polynomial of the concept size, modified by the approximation and likelihood bounds . Similar to parity physics , parity in computer science means equality or functional equivalent . Examples of parity would be 10 sub 2 sub is in parity with 2 sub 10 sub or a commodity may be in parity with another commodity or with an amount of money. In the sciences, parity takes on a special meaning, and uses the concepts of even and odd. Parity in computer science is used to determine if data are equal to or on a parity with other data, or more usually, the same data at another point in time. As such, it is used to detect error. Parity in computer science is based on a special bit , called a Parity bit that can be either true or false. In computer science, 0 represents false and 1 represents true. In computer science , program derivation is the derivation of a program from its specification, by mathematical means. To derive a program means to write a formal specification, which is usually non executable, and then apply mathematically correct rules in order to obtain an executable program satisfying that specification. The program thus obtained is then correct by construction. Program and correctness computer science correctness proof are constructed together. The approach usually taken in formal verification is to first write a program, and then provide a mathematical proof proof that it conforms to a given program specification specification . The main problems with this are that the resulting proof is often long and cumbersome no insight is given as to how the program was developed it appears like a rabbit out of a hat should the program happen to be incorrect in some subtle way, the attempt to verify it is likely to be long and certain to be fruitless. Program derivation tries to remedy these shortcomings by keeping proofs shorter, by development of appropriate mathematical notations making design decisions through formal manipulation of the specification. Terms that are roughly synonymous with program derivation are transformational programming, algorithmics, deductive programming.
