Boulton was born at Stockport . He was the son of John Boulton of Glossop who was related to MatthewBoulton of Boulton and Watt fame. Mr I. W. Boulton had a son named James Watt Boulton. Career In 1841 I. W. Boulton began an apprenticeship with the Sheffield, Ashton under Lyne and Manchester Railway under Richard Peacock . Later, he joined his father s canal boat business and remained there until 1845. After this he set up an engineering business but little is known about it except that he built at least one steam carriage probably similar to those built by Richard Trevithick and Goldsworthy Gurney and at least one steamboat . In 1854 he joined the locomotive department of the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway at Gorton locomotive works Gorton . He left in 1856 and set up another engineering business at Portland Street, Ashton under Lyne , where he built and repaired steam engines of various kinds. In 1864, he became the deputy grandmaster for Orange Order in Canada Orange Order in British North America he became the provincial grandmaster for Ontario West in 1870. In 1873, at Glasgow, he became president of the Triennial Orange Conference of the British Empire. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in a by election in Simcoe South in 1873. In 1874, he became grandmaster of the Grand Black Chapter of British America, an exclusive Orange order. He died in Toronto in 1875. Unreferenced date February 2009 George Strange Boulton September 11, 1797 February 13, 1869 was a lawyer and political figure in Upper Canada . He was born near Albany, New York , in 1797, the son of D Arcy Boulton Upper Canada politician D Arcy Boulton , and came to Upper Canada with his family around 1800. He studied at John Strachan s school in Cornwall, Ontario Cornwall . He served during the War of 1812 . In 1818, he was called to the bar and began work as a lawyer in Port Hope, Ontario Port Hope . In 1824, he was appointed registrar for Northumberland County, Ontario Northumberland County and he moved to Cobourg, Ontario Cobourg , the county seat. At the start of the 1837 rebellion, he became a member of the militia. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada for Durham in 1824 his election was declared invalid in 1825. In 1830, he was elected in Durham and represented it in the legislative assembly until 1841. He was a loyal Conservative and supported the expulsion of William Lyon Mackenzie from the assembly. In 1847, he was appointed to the Legislative Council of the Province of Canada . He died in Cobourg, Ontario, in 1869. His brother, Henry John Boulton , was Attorney General in Upper Canada.
