  1. Median cut

Median cut is an sorting algorithm algorithm to sort data of an arbitrary number of dimensions into series of sets by cutting each set of data at the median point. Median cut is typically used for color quantization . For example, to reduce a 64k colour image to 256 colours, median cut is used to find 256 colours that match the original data well. This can be seen in the Perl Modular programming module Image Pngslimmer available on CPAN . 1. Median test

In statistics , Mood s median test is a special case of Pearson s chi squared test . It is a nonparametric test that tests the null hypothesis that the median s of the Statistical population population s from which two Sampling statistics samples are drawn are identical. The data in each sample are assigned to two groups, one consisting of data whose values are higher than the median value in the two groups combined, and the other consisting of data whose values are at the median or below. A Pearson s chi squared test is then used to determine whether the observed frequencies in each group differ from expected frequencies derived from a Frequency distribution distribution combining the two groups. The test has low Statistical power power efficiency for moderate to large sample sizes, and is largely regarded as obsolete. The Wilcoxon&ndash Mann&ndash Whitney U two sample test should be considered instead. Siegel & Castellan 1988, p.  124 suggest that there is no alternative to the median test when one or more observations are off the scale. The relevant difference between the two tests is that the median test only considers the position of each observation relative to the overall median, whereas the Wilcoxon&ndash Mann&ndash Whitney test takes the ranks of each observation into account. Thus the latter test is usually the more powerful of the two. Spoken Wikipedia Median test.ogg 2006 01 20 See also Sign test a paired alternative to the median test. 1. Median artery

The median artery is an artery that is occasionally found in humans and other animals. It is present in 8 of individuals. When present, it is found in the forearm , between the radial artery and ulnar artery . It runs with the median nerve and supplies the same structures as that nerve. It may be unilateral or bilateral. It passes deep to the Flexor retinaculum of the hand flexor retinaculum and may terminate at one or more of the palmar arches. In a deep wrist laceration, such as from a suicide attempt, the median artery may be incised, risking exsanguination. An individual who does not have a median artery appears to suffer no ill effects. 1. Median (geometry)

dablink For another use of the term median in geometry, see Geometric median . Image Triangle.Centroid.svg right thumb The triangle medians and the centroid. In geometry , a median of a triangle is a line segment joining a vertex geometry vertex to the midpoint of the opposing side. Every triangle has exactly three medians one running from each vertex to the opposite side. In the case of isosceles and equilateral triangles, a median bisects any angle at a vertex whose two adjacent sides are equal in length. Relation to center of mass Each median of a triangle passes through the triangle s centroid , which is the center of mass of an object of uniform density in the shape of the triangle.
