It was established by Dominican Order Dominican nun s in 1922 as St. Agnes College, the first Catholic women s college in the Diocese of Nashville and in the Memphis metro area. Initially, the campus housed a Kindergarten through twelfth grade girls school and the college. It was the first college in Memphis to offer adult evening courses. In 1939, the St. Agnes Academy Memphis, Tennessee Saint Agnes Academy moved to a new campus where it remains , and the name of St. Agnes College was changed to Siena College. The college eventually was moved to its own new campus on Poplar Avenue in 1953 where it was known for excellence in education until it closed in 1972. Westwood is bounded by the ICRR on the west, South Third on the east, Raines Road on the north and West Shelby Drive on the south. History The Weaver Family, whose ancestors had owned a convert 4000 acre km2 adj on cotton plantation, sold some of their land in the 1950s for development of a subdivision in the Southern part of Shelby County, Tennessee Shelby County . The subdivision became Westwood and later the area in and near the subdivision was annexed into Memphis. And as the neighborhood grew in the 1960s, businesses were built and establish to serve the residents. Along with the growth of Westwood, was The Hill Top which include the Doubletree Community.
