orphan date September 2010 A remote experiment is a real experiment with real laboratory instrument s and equipment that can be controlled by a teacher or a student or any user from their computer through the Internet . Remotely controlled experiments have become a widespread tool for teaching physics at the university level of education . The use of a remote experiment is most beneficial and helpful in the domains where it is impossible to demonstrate the real experiment or where there is no appropriate equipment available. Advantages of remote experiments We can divide the physical experiment s into three fundamental groups. The first group consists of real experiments conducted in the traditional face to face School laboratory school laboratories . Working in the classical school laboratories provides a direct contact with real measure equipment and offers an immediate feedback of the teacher or the classmates. The second category of physical experiment comprises virtual experiment s conducted in Virtual laboratory virtual laboratories . Students do not work with real laboratory tool s in these laboratories, they only control virtual object s. The third group represents the real experiments that can be on line controlled by users via the Internet. A remotely controlled experiment or in short a remote experiment is used as a nomenclature for these kinds of experiments. Remotely controlled experiments have several benefits different from simulation s in virtual laboratories and from classical experiments in the traditional school laboratories carrying out experiments from anywhere in the world no time restriction experiment is permanently ready for measurement no danger of injury for the experimenter unique results for the particular place of measurement. noreferences date October 2011 External links http www.ictphysics.upol.cz remotelab index en.html http rcl.physik.uni kl.de DEFAULTSORT Remote Experiment Category Science experiments ... more details

The NA48 experiment was a series of particle physics experiments in the field of kaon physics being carried out at the North Area of the Super Proton Synchrotron at CERN . The collaboration involved over 100 physicists mostly from Western Europe and Russia . Historical overview The experiment was launched in the early 1990s. The primary physics goal &ndash the search for direct CP violation &ndash was inherited from the predecessor NA31 experiment . The physics data taking runs took place between 1997 and 2001. The discovery of the phenomenon of direct CP violation, one of the most important experimental results ever obtained at CERN, was announced by the collaboration in 1999. The publication of the final result was made in 2001. In addition the experiment made a large contribution to studies of rare particle decay decays of neutral kaon s. The following stage of the experiment NA48 1 was carried out in 2002 and was devoted to high precision study of rare decays of kaons and neutral hyperon s. The next stage NA48 2 was carried out in 2003&ndash 2004 and was dedicated to a large programme of studies of properties of charged kaons, including the search of direct CP violation, studies of rare decays of the charged kaon, and low energy Quantum chromodynamics QCD using final state rescattering . The successor of NA48 is the NA62 experiment . It took the first data in 2007&ndash 2008 to measure the ratio of Ke2 K 2 Clarify Ke2 K 2?? In the field of social psychology , a breaching experiment is an experiment that seeks to examine people s reactions to violations of commonly accepted social rules or Norm sociology norms . Breaching experiments are most commonly associated with ethnomethodology , and in particular the work of Harold Garfinkel . The conduct of a breaching experiment is sometimes referred to as Garfinkeling . Examples Erving Goffman s seminal study Behavior in Public Places gives some classic examples of behavioral norms, such as it is inconsiderate to litter &ndash put your garbage in the trash can . A breaching experiment studies people s reaction to an experimenter who breaks this kind of small, everyday rule. The strength of the reaction is taken as an indication of the strength of the rule. The inexplicable do gooder Social science researcher Earl R. Babbie writes that it is a social rule that ordinary citizens should not pick up garbage from the street, or mend street signs, or otherwise fix problems. ref Babbie, Earl. 2001. A famous breaching experiment was conducted on the New York City subway in the 1970s, when experimenters boarded crowded trains and asked able bodied but seated riders, with no explanation, to give up their seats. The Homestake experiment sometimes referred to as the Davis experiment was an experiment headed by astrophysicists Raymond Davis Jr. Raymond Davis, Jr. and John N. Bahcall in the late 1960s. Its purpose was to collect and count neutrino s emitted by nuclear fusion taking place in the Sun . Bahcall did the theoretical calculations and Davis designed the experiment. After Bahcall calculated the rate at which the detector should capture neutrinos, Davis s experiment turned up only one third of this figure. The experiment was the first to successfully detect and count solar neutrinos, and the discrepancy in results essentially created the solar neutrino problem . The experiment operated continuously from 1970 until 1994. The University of Pennsylvania took it over in 1984. The discrepancy between the predicted and measured rates of neutrino detection was later found to be due to Neutrino oscillation neutrino flavor oscillations . Methodology The experiment took place in the Homestake Mine South Dakota Homestake Gold Mine in Lead, South Dakota . Davis placed 1,478 meter 4,850 feet underground a 380 cubic meter 100,000 gallon tank of perchloroethylene , a common dry cleaning fluid. A big target deep underground was needed to account for the very small probability of a successful neutrino ..., with no errors found. Davis scrutinized his own experiment and insisted there was nothing wrong with it. The Homestake experiment was followed by other experiments with the same purpose, such as Kamiokande in Japan , SAGE Soviet American Gallium Experiment SAGE in the former Soviet Union , GALLEX ..., solving the solar neutrino problem.
