  1. Ages of Middle-earth

unreferenced date June 2009 bot yes Portal Middle earth In J. R. R. Tolkien s fictional universe of Middle earth , the time is typically rendered in Ages. Ages are one calendar era epoch of the Valar. Before the arising of the Sun Middle earth Sun they were approximately one thousand Valian Years in length the exact length of a Valian Year varied in different drafts of Tolkien s texts from close to 10 Sun years in most versions to precisely 144 Sun years in his final estimation . After the Sun, Ages sped up and length is more variable. The Years of the Sun began with the 30th Valian Age, and the Fourth Age of Middle earth began with the 37th Valian Age. History of Wales Wales in the Late Middle Ages covers the period from the death of Llywelyn ap Gruffydd in late 1282 to the incorporation of Wales into the Kingdom of England by the Laws in Wales Acts 1535 1542 . Death of Llywelyn After the death of Llywelyn the Last Llywelyn ap Gruffydd , his brother Dafydd ap Gruffydd carried on resistance for a few months, but was never able to control any large area. He was captured and executed by hanging, drawing and quartering at Shrewsbury in 1283. King Edward I of England now had complete control of Wales. The Statute of Rhuddlan was issued from Rhuddlan Castle in north Wales in 1284. The Statute divided parts of Wales into the counties of Anglesey , Merionethshire Merioneth and Caernarfonshire Caernarvon , created out of the remnants of Llewelyn s Gwynedd. It introduced the English common law system, and abolished Welsh law for criminal cases, though it remained in use for civil cases. It allowed the King to appoint royal officials such as sheriffs, coroners, and bailiffs to collect taxes and administer justice. In addition, the offices of justice and chamberlain were created to assist the sheriff. The Marcher Lords retained most of their independence, as they had prior to the conquest. 1. Empires of the Middle Ages

Empires of the Middle Ages is a board game for two to six players which simulates grand strategy and diplomacy in the Middle Ages . It was first released by Simulations Publications, Inc. in 1980 in games 1980 . Each player in EOMA controls an empire composed of areas, each of which is rated for wealth, religion, language and population. The talents of each empire s current ruler are represented by numerical ratings for warfare, administration, and diplomacy. The object of the game is essentially to grow an empire in terms of wealth, geography and stability. Development EOMA was designed by James Dunnigan , a prolific game designer and writer. However, often a Dunnigan design would consist of no more than a four page outline on a legal pad and a developer would then take over, doing the lion s share of the work and completing the project. Fact date April 2009 In this case, this was done by Anthony F. Buccini who also received a designer s credit. A third design credit went to Redmond A. Simonsen , who was responsible for all the graphical features of the game and likely played a significant role in development as well. Fact date April 2009 Game play The game is played in turns representing five years, and each player may attempt one endeavor for each year. Endeavors may be diplomatic, economic such as taxation or military in nature. Central to the game are two decks of cards, Event and Year cards. Event cards create random events such as pandemic plague , famine or Schism religion schism , while Year cards are used to resolve endeavors. A key element is the ever present possibility of civil unrest and other military and political threats. The full campaign game begins in the year 770 the accession of Charlemagne and continues to about 1475. Smaller scenarios begin with the historical ...
