The minaret is 36 m high, was built in 1190 1232 AD 630 586 according to Islamic Calendar during the reign of Muzaffar Al Din Abu Sa eed Al Kawkaboori, the king of Arbil at that time. The minaret is composed of a high octagonal base and a tall cylindrical shaft, with a balcony located between the base and the shaft. It is s built of baked bricks, the base being decorated with two tiers of niches with pointed arches, two on each of the eight faces that are inscribed in rectangular frames. The balcony parapet is carved with twenty four small niches, the access door to the minaret steps is on the eastern side of the octagonal base and leads top to the balcony. From there a small door gives access to steps inside the cylindrical shaft that led to the second balcony now collapsed. The shaft tapers inward and is decorated with several bands of interlocking diagonal hazarbaf Hazar Baf motifs that are separated with thin bands. Examples of Kufi calligraphy can be seen, showing the names of Muhammad and Mas oudi Muhammadi, the builders of the Minaret. The minaret, designed by Bako, was built by the Qarakhanid dynasty Qarakhanid ruler Mohammad Arslan Khan in 1127 to summon Muslims to prayer five times a day. An earlier tower collapsed before completion. It is made in the form of a circular pillar baked brick tower, narrowing upwards. It is 45.6 metres 149.61  ft high 48 metres including the point , of 9 metres 29.53  ft diameter at the bottom and 6 metres 19.69  ft overhead. The body of the minaret is topped by a Rotunda architecture rotunda with 16 arched fenestrations, from which the muezzin s summoned the Muslims in the city to prayer. There is a brick spiral staircase that twists up inside around the pillar to the rotunda. Once the minaret was believed to have had another round section above the rotunda, but now only the cone shaped top remains. History Built between 1258 1279 by the Anatolian Seljuk Sultanate vizier S hib Ata S hib Ata Fahreddin Ali who later founded the Anatolian beylik of S hib Ata . The minaret was originally much taller than the section that survives today, and had an unusually slender appearance in comparison to the minarets of other contemporary Seljuk mosques, hence the name of the structure. The building has a highly ornamented stone fa ade which includes relief work of scripts, geometric patterning and vertical ribbon like lines. Restored in 1956, the edifice is used today as a museum where stone and wooden artefacts dating from the Seljuk and Ottoman Empire Ottoman periods are displayed. Built in 1550 on behalf of Emin Nuretti Efendi , qadi asker of Egypt, it is named for its spiraling burmal brick minaret, a copy of a Seljuq dynasty Seljuq design that is unique in Istanbul. The mosque is not domed, but has a pitched porch, which rests on four reused Byzantine Corinthian order Corinthian stone columns. Unusually, the entrance is off center behind a column.
