This is part a youth group supporting the air force and part domestic search and rescue auxiliary for the air force. The CAP system also use frequencies near the official radio amateur bands to coordinate searches and to relay messages. Formerly MARS operators belonged to a specialized branch of service, such as Army MARS, Air Force MARS or Navy Marine Corps MARS.
