Since its founding in 1953, it has been awarded to over five thousand students in Japan and abroad. It covers tuition, academic fees, transportation, and offers a room board stipend between 100,000 and 150,000 yen per month. Approximately 90 of these scholarships are awarded to Japanese students, for one year of undergraduate or graduate level study abroad. Scholars must attend one of 46 universities pre selected by the Foundation. Approximately 10 of these scholarships are awarded to international students, for one year of undergraduate or graduate level study in Japan. The King s Scholarship is a prestigious merit based scholarship for overseas undergraduate studies awarded to Education in Thailand upper secondary school graduates in Thailand . The qualifying examinations are organized by the Office of the Civil Service Commission , and are extremely competitive a total of nine scholarships are awarded annually. The scholarship is widely considered to be the greatest academic achievement possible for Thai school students. Unlike other Thai Government scholarships, the King s Scholarship does not have bond requirements for recipients to work for the Thai Government. The only requirement of the scholarship is that recipients return to work in Thailand for a period equal to the duration of their studies. Since this is dredged up from a distance of 50 years please feel free to amend it. In 1960 I sat two S levels you could sit 1 or 2 in Chemistry and Pure Maths. I obtained grade 3 in both and was awarded a State Scholarship. As I had already won a County Scholarship based on A level results worth about 120 pa the State Scholarship was just an additional 50 pa. I have a very vague recollection that there were 1200 awarded annually nationwide. I have a similar recollection, although my memory of the number awarded each year is 2000. In my case 1966 9 The State Scholarship around 300 pa, but means tested was the only funding I received, as winning it invalidated my County Award. It paid all my maintenance costs. My College Scholarship 60 pa was unaffected. I also have a similar recollection. I sat two S levels in Pure Maths and Physics in 1959,I cannot recall actual grades but I got a distinction in Physics,and the State Scholarship was worth about 280.
