Unreferenced date June 2008 Image Virus 01.jpg right thumb 200px Virus 1 December 1992 Virus is a Dark Horse Comics comic book , written by Chuck Pfarrer , drawn by Canadian artist Howard Cobb and first published in 1992 in comics 1992 . The story is about an alien life form which takes over a Chinese research vessel and reconfigures it using both the damaged electronics and the dead bodies of the crew, it propagates itself by making various creatures created out of both organic and inorganic parts. When a salvage ship shows up they have to deal with the life form or be taken over as well. Pfarrer said in an interview that when he wrote the original story in the early 1990s, the special effects wouldn t have been possible, so he sold the script to Dark Horse as a comic. Don Berry 1931 2001 was an United States American artist and author best known for his historical novels about early settlers in the Oregon Country . He was born in Minnesota but moved to Oregon as a young man and came to think of himself as a native of that state. He attended Reed College in Portland, Oregon . During college his housemates included the poet Gary Snyder , who shared Berry s interest in Eastern metaphysics . In 1960 he published Trask , a historical novel about Elbridge Trask , an Oregon settler in the 1840s who was the first white homesteader on Tillamook Bay . It was followed by two sequels, Moontrap and To Build a Ship . The novels have collectively become known as the Trask novels. His other works include A Majority of Scoundrels , a history of the fur trade in the Rocky Mountains . Besides writing, his lifelong artistic pursuits included bronze sculpture , sumi e painting, and blues guitar playing. Berry was also an early adopter marketing early adopter of the use of the Internet for writing, creating a large body of literature that exists only in cyberspace . Plot Dr. Eric Norris remains wracked with guilt after a terrible tragedy that cost him his family, and when he learns that an alien parasite is not only growing inside him but shares his DNA, he develops a fiercely paternal bond with the creature.
