  1. Moral example

Unreferenced date May 2007 Moral example is trust in the moral core of another, a role model . It was cited by Confucius , Muhammad , Mohandas Gandhi and other important philosophers and theologians as the prime duty of a ruler including the head of a family or the owner of a business. This view has been criticized as leading to totalitarianism and an overly trusting civics validated by history of China, India and Arabia to a degree. It is also true that since the exact circumstances and decisions of the lives of such moral examples cannot be reproduced or repeated, followers are often reduced to following their etiquette and customs, e.g. in ancestor worship . Storytelling can take a central role in any culture built on moral example, particularly when the provider of the moral example does not refer to an explicit ethical theory or philosophy as the basis for his behavior. A complex culture built on such stories can fall prey to a clique of experts who interpret them for the lay public. This has led in the past to institutions that sort through anecdotes to decide which of them are true, e.g. isnad in Islam by which the hadith are validated. In modern life, celebrity celebrities are often criticized for failing to provide moral examples. They respond sometimes by saying, that they felt comfortable as an inspiration to others, but not as a role model . He draws evidence from evolutionary biology , moral and political philosophy , primatology , linguistics , and anthropology . Hauser uses artificial moral dilemmas as a research strategy. The reason is that people already have moral judgments of real world cases such as abortion and euthanasia, so there is no intuition left. In artificial moral dilemmas intuition plays an important role. A second advantage of artificial cases is that they can be subtly modified to observe the effects on moral judgments on people. The moral code in turn can be in any of the forms that constitutions can be in, such as written, unwritten, codified, uncodified, etc. It would appear that such a constitution would create a change in the application of law and in particularly Constitutional Law from a rule of law paradigm to a morality based paradigm, and would require the explanation and descritption of that rule of morality as a principle of operation of the government specified in this constitution as a fundamental component of its structure. The description of a rule of morality, or moral code can come in two forms. It can be a set of rules, such as the biblical Ten Commandments , and is the form of most law legal systems of government today. Alternatively, it can be a set of principles, or a moral code . The latter form does not seem to have any presently working exemplars in any known government and is little commented upon. 1. Moral certainty

Moral certainty is a concept of intuitive probability . It means a very high degree of probability, sufficient for action, but short of absolute or mathematical certainty. The concept stems from a statement in Aristotle s Nicomachean Ethics that one must be content with the kind of certainty appropriate to different subject matters, so that in practical decisions one cannot expect the certainty of mathematics. The Latin phrase moralis certitudo was used in this sense by the France French philosopher Jean Gerson about 1400. The Oxford English Dictionary mentions occurrences in English from 1637. 1. Moral support

Unreferenced date June 2008 Moral support is a way of giving support to a person or cause, or to one side in a conflict, without making any contribution beyond the emotional or psychological value of the encouragement. For example, in a war between two countries or alliances, a third nation may give moral support to one side, without actually participating in the conflict for example, Paraguay in World War II World War ll . Another common example can be found in sports . By coming out to watch one s friend s team play a match, one is likely not directly supporting her team in any significant way especially if there is no charge to attend , but one s friend may still feel encouraged by the moral support of one s presence. The line between moral support and other forms of help is often hard to draw. For example, some sportsperson athlete s report that they play better when the spectators encourage them and in some cases referees decisions may be influenced by a partisan crowd. refimprove date January 2012 A moral victory occurs when a person, team, army or other group loses a confrontation, and yet achieves some other morality moral gain. This gain might be unrelated to the confrontation in question, and the gain is often considerably less than what would have been accomplished if an actual victory had been achieved. For example, a sports team that loses fairly to a cheating team might claim a moral victory in spite of the loss. Another, less straightforward situation in which a moral victory could be claimed is if a team which is yet to win a game, and which has been blown out every game so far, loses by a narrow margin, or perhaps in an overtime of sorts, to a team which is either undefeated, or generally considered far superior. Another moral victory can see seen in Arthur Miller s play The Crucible the character John Proctor was executed but his children received his land. 1. Moral bankruptcy

unreferenced date August 2011 Moral bankruptcy is a synonym for immorality that has gained popular usage in the fields of business and politics , in which it specifically implies some instance of political corruption or corporate crime . It is a connotation negatively connoted term referring to the deterioration or devaluation of morality in a person or entity, usually with the implication that the person or entity is aware of and responsible themselves for this deterioration. Moral bankruptcy, therefore, suggests that an individual has a sense of what is both morally good and bad i.e. right and wrong , but consciously and deliberately chooses to make decisions in accord with the morally bad. Because of its negative connotation, the term tends in particular to mean both a selfish and consistent disregard for morality where morality means a certain ethical domain, like propriety, justice, duty, the law, etc. . Moral bankruptcy may be distinguished from amoral ity, which is simply any absence of morality e.g. some animals as an entire species may be considered amoral simply because they do not belong to cultures with moral codes .
