Biography Mordecai Hirsch Bauman was born on March 2, 1912 to Allen and Minnie Bauman in the Bronx, New York City. He was granted a fellowship to the Juilliard School Juilliard Graduate School of Music during his freshman year at Columbia College of Columbia University Columbia College in 1930, the first and only student to attend both institutions concurrently. At Juilliard, he studied voice with Francis Rogers. He married Irma Commanday, and with his wife started his own school, Indian Hill, in Stockbridge, Mass. it was the first summer school in the arts founded for teenagers. During the Bach Tercentenary, 1985, he led a tour to the Bach Festival in Leipzig, and a few years after that he completed a documentary, The Stations of Bach, in East Germany. This was funded by the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities, and shown nationally on PBS in 1990 for many years after. It is now owned by CUNY TV and shown yearly on Bach s birthday, March 21. In 2006 Mordy and Irma wrote their memoir and named it, From our Angle of Repose .     Mordecai ben Eliezer Comtino lived at Adrianople and Constantinople died in the latter city between 1485 and 1490 was a History of the Jews in Turkey Turkish Jewish Talmudist and scientist. The earliest date attached to any of his writings is 1425. The form of his family name is doubtful, and has been transcribed by modern scholars as Comtino. He was a research professor in theater at Southern Illinois University from 1960 to 1972 and taught at San Jose State College . He is the author of the classic book New Theaters for Old , published in 1940 and still used today in universities, theater departments. Gorelik was also the American expert on the work of Bertold Brecht and EPIC Theater. He married Frences Strauss in 1936, they had two children a son Eugene Gorelik and a daughter Linda Gorelik. Frences Strauss died on June 5,1966. Gorelik created scenic designs for Men in White play Men in White , Golden Boy play Golden Boy , Tortilla Flat play Tortilla Flat , Casey Jones play Casey Jones , All My Sons , Desire Under the Elms , The Flowering Peach , A Hatful of Rain , The Plough and the Stars , and Volpone .     Mordecai Samuel ben Benzion Aryeh Ghirondi born in Padua October 1799 died there January 4, 1852 was an Italian Jewish author and chief rabbi of Padua. Ghirondi studied at the rabbinical college of Padua, in which he was appointed professor of theology 1824 . In 1829 he was appointed assistant rabbi of Padua two years later he became chief rabbi. He was a recognized authority in rabbinics, and was consulted by rabbis of several communities. He wrote Toko Ra uf Ahabah , a work on ethics produced when he was only sixteen years old Pisa, 1818 Ma amar Keriyyat ha Borot, a treatise on artesian wells, showing references to them in the Talmud printed in I. S. Reggio s Iggerot Yosher , Vienna, 1834 . His most important work, Toledot Gedole Yisrael , a biographical and bibliographical dictionary of Italian rabbis and secular scholars. He had in his possession Graziadio Nepi s biographical work entitled Zeker addi im to this he added 831 numbers of his own, two thirds of which are not found in any earlier biographical dictionary. The combined work was published by Ephraim Raphael Ghirondi , the author s son Nepi s and Ghirondi s were printed on opposite pages Trieste, 1853 . The latter also wrote ebu at Kesef , responsa, in two parts, and Li u e Shoshannim , novell , in two volumes both unpublished .
