Formed in 2002, the International Association for Jungian Studies IAJS is a learned society for Analytical Psychology Jungian scholars and clinicians. The IAJS differs from the dominant international Jungian organization, the International Association of Analytical Psychologists IAAP , in that the IAAP accepts only clinicians i.e., institute trained analysts as members, whereas the IAJS accept not only clinicians, but scholars, clergy, artists and others with a professional or scholarly interest in Jungian and post Jungian theory. The IAJS organizes semiannual to annual conferences, at which academic papers are presented. The organization began in 1976 as the Western Association for German Studies, and was renamed as the GSA in 1983 after transforming itself into first a North American organization, and then an international one. The founder and long time executive director of the GSA was Professor Gerald R. Kleinfeld of Arizona State University . He also served as the first editor of the association s scholarly journal, the German Studies Review , which was first published in 1978. The executive director s position is currently held by Professor David E. Barclay of Kalamazoo College , while the German Studies Review is edited by Professor Diethelm Prowe of Carleton College . It s focus is on supporting and cultivating higher education in the British Isles relating to Jewish culture and history. They also organize conferences and support research and publication. The BAJS conducts a survey each year on what courses in Jewish Studies are being offered at British universities. The most recent report may be viewed through a link on the BAJS website. The BAJS also holds two essay competitions annually. One is for undergraduates and the other for post grads. The winners are awarded 200 each.
