Unreferenced date July 2008 The Loft Theatre Company is a troupe of actors based in Royal Leamington Spa , United Kingdom , founded in 1922. The company has a strong reputation nationally for the professional quality of productions. History File Loft Theatre.jpg right thumb 230px The Loft Theatre by the River Leam The company was founded on 5 May 1922 by a local reverend , Mr W. A. Constable, and his wife, after a meeting in the neighbouring town of Warwick . The original group was called The Warwick and Leamington Dramatic Study Club and its intention was the study of plays and poems, just as much as the performance of them. In these early days the company did not have their own premises so they used various locations around Leamington including the local college, the town hall and The Jephson Gardens . The company moved into its first home, a barn, in 1932. It was from this venue that it got its affectionate name, now its official name, The Loft after the hay loft in the barn . The barn was used for nine years after which the company again went on tour until a suitable new venue, the Victorian Grand Pavilion , was found. Situated by the River Leam in the centre of the town this is the current site of the Company although two fires in 1958 and 1964 meant that the current theatre building was not opened until 1968. Facilities The main auditorium holds 200 people and is fully air conditioned. There is a smaller performance space, seating 50, called the Douglas Ford studio. Productions The company is run almost exclusively by volunteers and is a registered charity, receiving no funding from external bodies. The company produces around 9 shows a year in the main auditorium and a smaller number in the studio from a wide range of theatrical genres. Facts Charles Guth Mr. Guth was the President of Loft Inc, which made a cola drink. Loft s soda fountains purchased cola syrup from Coca Cola Ltd, but then Mr. Guth decided it would be cheaper to buy from Pepsi after Coke declined to give him a larger jobber discount. Pepsi went bankrupt before Mr. Guth could inquire about obtaining syrup from Pepsi. Mr. Guth bought the company and its syrup recipe, which he then had Loft chemists reformulate and then purported to sell the syrup on to Loft Inc. He was alleged to have breached his fiduciary duty of loyalty to the company by failing to offer that opportunity to Loft Inc, and instead appropriating it for himself. Judgment Daniel J. Although it s been a debate, whether it s an EP or LP, due the few songs on the album, the band s members claim it to be an LP album. It only contains five songs, all over the ten minute mark plus an intro. It was recorded over a weekend in a studio in a small garage, located in K pavogur , right outside of Reykjav k , Iceland s capital, and mixed within a week in the same small studio. All the songs we recorded in one take, meaning that there were no overdubs and no second takes for any instrument. Kjartan Holm, and Gu finnur Sveinsson, FaMR s guitarists and pianists said in a interview with a Belgian magazine once that this only gives the album some charm, they don t regret doing it this way. They have also revealed that the reason why the recordings were like this, was because they ve landed a spot on their first Iceland Airwaves gig in 2007 and basically wanted to have something to sell.
