E Myth in the business vernacular refers to the Entrepreneur ial Myth, and means that most businesses fail because the founders are technician s that were inspired to start a business without a true entrepreneur s outlook. The E Myth has been cited in many books such as Managing Organized Chaos Business Planning 1.0 where the author gives reference to recommending it as a must read. http www.statcan.gc.ca Statistics Canada has mentioned that 80 of all non franchised business fail. Which is a direct result of not understanding the differences between running a business and performing a service or providing a product of that business http www.managingorganizedchaos.com Managing Organized Chaos Business Planning 1.0 . Business management Business Management involves the direct management of all processes of business systems not just the performance of a service. An example is one seen very often with construction companies. The owner may be a licensed heating and cooling technician who feels since he is qualified to do all the service work, he is qualified to run a business, since that business performs heating and cooling services. In fact this is the biggest mistake anyone can make. Yes he is qualified to do the work but he does not know how to set up the company, prepare reports, market his business, handle customer service issues, etc... He forgets that he went to school and became qualified to work for a business not run one. E Myth is also used as a verb, i.e., to E Myth your business means to build internal systems that control processes as in a Franchising franchise operation, so that results are predictable. Merge to Telepinu god date October 2010 The Telepinu Myth is an ancient Hittites Hittite myth about the god Telepinu god Telepinu Hittite god of farming and fertility whose disappearances causes all fertility to fail, both plant and animal. This results in devastation and despair among gods and humans alike. In order to stop the havoc and devastation, the gods seek Telepinu but fail to find him. Only a bee sent by the goddess Hannahanna finds Telepinu, and stings him in oder to wake him up. However this infuriates Telepinu further and he diverts the flow of rivers and shatters the houses . In the end, the goddess Kamrusepa uses healing and magic to calm Telepinu after which he returns home and restores the vegetation and fertility. In other references it is a mortal priest who prays for all of Telepinu s anger to be sent to bronze containers in the underworld, of which nothing escapes. ref The Ancient Near East, J.B.Pickard, p 88 ref See also Portal Mythology Ancient Near East Hittite mythology References Reflist Pritchard, James B., The Ancient Near East, Vol. I. Neologism date May 2011 The frontier myth or frontier tall tales is a term given to the popular Romanticism romanticization of the Wild West frontier. Origins In the United States , the frontier was the term applied to the zone of unsettled land outside the region of existing settlements of Americans. In a broad sense, the notion of the frontier was the edge of the settled country where unlimited free land was available and thus unlimited opportunity. Being a frontiersman in the so called Wild West , a cowboy , rancher or gold miner were idealized within American mystery. Mark Twain colorfully related that accounts gold strikes in the popular press had supported the feverish expansion of the mining frontier and provoked mining stampedes during the 1860s and 1870s Every few days news would come of the discovery of a brand new mining region immediately the papers would teem with accounts of its richness, and away the surplus population would scamper to take possession ref Twain, Mark. Roughing It. 1872 ref Similarly the life of the hardy cowboy driving dusty herds of longhorns northward from Texas to the cattle markets Abilene, Kansas Abilene and Dodge City , Kansas, was romanticized by the eastern press. This transformed the cattle industry until the late 1870s. The former image of cowboys as ne er do well and drifter changed significantly. They were now glorified as men of rough hewn integrity and self reliant strength. ref The Enduring Vision A History of the American People. Fifth Edition. Ed. Unreferenced date April 2007 Notability date March 2009 The Myth of Leadership is a business book written by former Brigham Young University lecturer Jeffrey Nielsen , who is a teacher of philosophy at Westminster College, Salt Lake City , Utah and Utah Valley University , Orem, Utah . Basis The book is based on a concept Neilsen calls the myth of leadership . Professor Nielsen argues that we frequently use the words leader and leadership metaphorically to refer to some talent or skill that is needed, which use does little damage as well as little good. However he adds, when we use the words formally to designate officially someone as leader or some position as leadership, then we create unhealthy and deleterious organizational and community relationships. As soon as we formally designate a leader, Nielsen argues, we create within the organization a dichotomy , two groups, to one we assign duties, and to the other we assign privileges. We confer unique and powerful privileges upon the few leaders and specify numerous duties to be obeyed by the many followers. The followers, the vast majority, are consigned to an inferior status, even to be sacrificed, if needs be, to preserve and protect the power and privilege of those designated as leaders whether through layoffs, war, tax cuts, or even welfare reform. To the leaders, the elite few, we grant the rights and privileges to command and control the vast resources, most importantly the information and decision making power. There are no exceptions to this split between the privileged few and the burdened many it will occur, Nielsen believes, in any and every organization that formally designates individuals as leaders and positions ... act of leader. POV date April 2012 The Borussian Myth or Borussian legend ref Hughes, Michael 1992 . Early Modern Germany, 1477 1806 , MacMillan Press and University of Pennsylvania Press, Philadelphia, p. xi. ISBN 0 8122 1427 7. ref is the name given by 20th century historians of German history to the earlier idea that German unification was inevitable, and that it was Prussia s destiny to accomplish it. The Borussian myth is an example of a teleological argument. Borussia is the Latin name for Prussia. Teleological arguments A teleological argument holds all things to be designed for, or directed toward, a specific final result. That specific result gives events and actions, even retrospectively, an inherent purpose. When applied to the historical process, an historical teleological argument posits the result as the inevitable trajectory of a specific set of events. These events lead inevitably, as Karl Marx or Friedrich Engels proposed, to a specific set of conditions or situations the resolution of those lead to another, and so on. This goal oriented, teleological notion of the historical process as a whole is present in a variety of arguments about the past the inevitability, for example, of the revolution of the proletariat and the Whig history Whiggish narrative of past as an inevitable progression ..., 1931 . ref Spinning the myth The narrative of the heroic past fell to such nationalist German ... all German states under its leadership.
