Eras of the Halakha Nahshon ben Zadok Gaon Hebrew or sometimes Nahshon b. Zadok was head of the Academy of Sura from 874 to 882, in succession to Mar Amram ben Sheshna . He wrote explanations to difficult words in the Talmud , not in alphabetical order, as did his contemporary Gaon ema ben Paltoi of Pumbedita , but in the order of the tractates. The Re umah, on ritual slaughtering Constantinople, 1566 , is ascribed to him, but his authorship is doubtful. He devoted much attention to the study of the Jewish calendar. He found that the order of the week days on which any particular festival occurs in successive years repeats itself after a cycle of 247 years, and that the years with regard to their characteristic dates can be arranged in 14 tables. This discovery is known as, and is contained in, the Iggul Cycle di R. Nahshon, which work was printed with the She erit Yosef of Joseph b. Shem ob b. Joshua 1521 . Nahshon and his son Hai Gaon did not approve of saying the Kol Nidre on the eve of Yom Kippur . Most of his responsa , contained in the collection Sha are ede , are written in Aramaic in a curt, difficult style but the responsa ascribed to him in Teshubot Ge onim admonim are written in mixed Hebrew in a plain, easy diction. Some of his decisions conflict with the Talmud , and in his haggadic interpretations he did not always agree with the older haggadists. He was greatly respected by his contemporaries. Image Amindab.jpg right 300px thumb Michelangelo s Aminadab Matthew 1 4 is the fourth verse of the Matthew 1 of the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament . The verse is part of the section where the genealogy of Saint Joseph Joseph , the legal father of Jesus , is listed. In the King James Version of the Bible the text reads And Ram biblical figure Aram begat Amminadab Aminadab and Aminadab begat Nahshon Naasson and Naasson begat Salmon Bible Salmon The World English Bible translates the passage as Ram became the father of Amminadab. Amminadab became the father of Nahshon. Nahshon became the father of Salmon. For a collection of other versions see http bibref.hebtools.com ?book 20Matthew&verse 1 4&src BibRef Matthew 1 4 This genealogy matches that given in several other places in the Bible, including Luke 3 33 . It covers the period when the Jews were of the captivity in Egypt up to near or after the The Exodus Exodus . The passage carries the genealogy through Aram, Amminadab, Nahshon, and Salmon of which only Nahshon, the brother in law of Aaron , is a notable figure. According to the Old Testament it was to Nashon that Moses gave control of the tribe of Judah, and it is thus from him that many of the kings of Judah are descended. Raymond E. Brown Brown notes that in this passage the genealogy seems to be moving much too quickly. Herezon, the father of Aram, is mentioned in Genesis 46 12 in connection with Joseph son of Jacob Joseph going to Egypt. Amminadab, whom Matthew states is his grandson, is mentioned in Numbers 1 7 in connection with the post The Exodus Exodus wandering in the desert. This leaves only three generations covering the period in Egypt that reportedly lasted several centuries. ref Raymond E. Brown Brown, Raymond E. about the Kenyan record label the Canadian record label Equator Records Canada Unreferenced date December 2009 Equator Records or Equator Sound Studios was originally known as East African Records, owned by Afcot Ltd , situated in Nairobi , Kenya . In 1960, Charles Worrod launched Equator Sound Studios Ltd. along with the Equator Sound Band . Legendary Kenyan musician Fadhili William became a member of the band alongside Adolf Banyoro , Peter Tsotsi , Nashil Pichen , Charles Ssongo , Gabriel Omolo , and Daudi Kabaka . Fadhili and the Jambo Boys Band recorded a number of songs with East African Records between 1959 and 1962. The other band members were Harrison William , Joseph Nazareth , Mumba Charo Fadhili s brother , Nahshon Gandani , Samuel Lefondo and Sheila Monroe . Equator Sound Studios, under direction from Worrod at that point, marketed and produced Fadhili s world famous Swahili language Swahili love ballad, Malaika , after Worrod realised that the original poorly recorded Malaika could have international appeal. Malaika had initially been recorded by Jambo Boys, with Konde serving as the studio engineer . Worrod, the man who created the African Twist and would have guided many more of the country s musician s and songwriter s to international fame, left Kenya in 1974 because the law barred him from engaging in the recording business unless he was a citizen . When he left, the recording and promotion of music in Kenya was thrown into disarray. After a while, Fadhili too left, for the United States USA , where he lived for 15 years. New Equator Records In 2006 a new record label was founded by members of the band Islands band Islands , which is also called Equator Records Canada Equator Records . There is no connection between the two labels.
