The main station house remains of what was once a complex that included a barn, stable, meat house, feed house and a privy. An auxiliary boathouse stood about a mile to the south. Surf LifeSaving Northern Region SLSNR is the organisation responsible for controlling the surf lifesaving activities around the Auckland region of New Zealand . It is responsible for surf beaches from Far North Rescue to Raglan Surf Lfe Saving Club . It is a district organization of Surf LifeSaving New Zealand . Founded in 1933, it currently has 17 affiliated clubs with more than 3000 volunteers. It currently employs 10 full time staff and around 70 seasonal professional lifeguards. Day to Day Responsibilities During the New Zealand LifeSaving Season Labour Weekend Labour Day to April, Surf LifeSaving Northern, through its support service, SurfCom, keeps in contact with the 17 surf clubs under its responsibility through radios or by telephone. Refimprove date May 2009 Orewa Surf LifeSaving Club , or Orewa SLSC , is a surf lifesaving club in New Zealand . It is one of 17 such clubs in the Surf LifeSaving Northern Region Northern Region of New Zealand. History Orewa SLSC was formed in 1950 by members of Milford SLSC which had fallen into recess. At this time the Estuary outflow travelled north along the beach and ended about where the club now sits. This made the beach quite dangerous and was the reason that the club is sited where it is. In the late 1950s the Air Force bombed the channel in the Estuary and this changed the river out flow straight out to sea. Club members originally stayed in a tent in the camping ground and later built a small shed about where the public toilets are to the south of the Club. The first proper clubhouse was opened in 1960. Funds were raised by the club building and operating a skating rink on the Domain. This was closed in the early 1990s and the remains can still be seen to the left of the Domain entry drive. The original clubhouse structure is still incorporated into the building and is roughly where the Lounge Restaurant is. An upstairs addition was added in the late 1970s and further additions made in the early 1990s to give the clubhouse its existing area. Women were allowed to join as active members for the first time in 1972 73 and the club added a Junior Surf section in 1974 75. In the early years members mainly came from Auckland. This has changed since the late 1970s when the local population started to grow significantly. Most of the club s members are now local. Over the years, the club has performed over 1100 rescues, in addition to countless other actions such as first aids, preventative actions, and so on. The Coogee Surf LifeSaving Club is a foundation member of the surf lifesaving movement in Australia . It was founded in 1907 by a group of concerned locals and has a proud history of no lives being lost whilst its members have patrolled. Coogee SLSC celebrates its 100 year anniversary in 2007 , the Year of the Lifesaver. Coogee SLSC has a glorious history, which includes many firsts in the lifesaving movement. These include the first night surf carnival, the first mass rescue, the first shark attack and the development of the resuscitation technique. The Coogee SLSC clubhouse sits at the southern end of Coogee beach . To this day, the club s activities are managed and run by volunteers, with the assistance of a variety of community concerned sponsors. Coogee SLSC has a representative on the Wylie s Baths Trust and conducts patrols at Wylie s Baths during summer. The Club conducts an annual swimming event around Wedding Cake Island each November.
