The NationalAcademy of Sciences of Argentina was created in 1869 by President D. F. Sarmiento in the City of Cordoba, Argentina, as a scientific corporation supported by the Federal Government. It was the first Academy to be supported by the Federal Government. It was finally consolidated legally in 1878 by presidential decree. Since its inception, the Academy has advocated for the development and outreach of exact and natural sciences, the exploration of the Argentine territory and has served as advisor to the National Government, provincial governments and other scientific institutions. The academy also awards prizes, publishes a journal and keeps a library and organizes conferences and other events. The building of the Academy was inaugurated in 1897 and was declared a National Historical Monument in 1994. Odessa National Maritime Academy is one of the leading world centres of higher marine education that since 1944 is training skilled specialists for the merchant marine, fishing fleet, enterprises and organizations of the marine transport. The NationalAcademy of Arts was founded in 1896 by the noted artists and public figures Ivan Mrkvi ka , Anton Mitov and Dr Ivan Shishmanov , who drafted a bill regarding the establishment of the State School of Drawing . Czechs Mrkvi ka and Jaroslav V n were the first teachers in the State School. The academy consists of two faculties, a Faculty of Fine Arts and a Faculty of Applied Arts, each offering a number of subjects. From 1947 1993 the President of the Academy of Sciences was Professor Ambartsumyan, Full Member of the USSR and Armenian Academies of Sciences. During 1993 2006 the President of NAS was Academician Fadey Sargsian. Since 2006 the President of NAS RA is Academician Radik Martirosyan.
