The Near East School of Theology NEST is an interdenominational Protestantism Protestant theology theological seminary serving the Evangelism Evangelical churches of the Middle East and Africa n churches, and is once again able to accommodate international students who have a special interest in Biblical studies Biblical and Islamic studies in a Middle Eastern context or those especially interested in the Ancient church es. History The NEST was formed in 1932 by the merger of the School for Religious Workers in Beirut and the School of Religion in Athens , Greece . It was built on a history of evangelical theological education going back to 1835. In 1971 the School was moved to its new home a modern, well equipped building two blocks south of the American University of Beirut . Profile The NEST is an undergraduate and graduate theological seminary of some 40 students and seven full and two part time faculty. The seminary offers the following programs B.A. in Christian Education B.Th. with emphasis in pastoral studies B.Th. in Christian Education M.A.C.E., a graduate program for educational ministries M.Div. for Pastoral ministry S.T.M., a post graduate research degree and the S.T.M. in Ministry established jointly with McCormick Theological Seminary in Chicago, Illinois Chicago .     Orphan date June 2008 The Near East Broadcasting Station also Sharq el Adna , Voice of Britain started broadcasting in Arabic in 1941 1942 from Jaffa , Mandate of Palestine . It was fully financed and run by the United Kingdom British government. The goal of the broadcasts were to entice Arabs to join British and British backed military forces, as well as to maintain political and economic stability in Palestine . The broadcasts were also started as an answer to similar propaganda radio stations broadcasting in Arabic set up first by Benito Mussolini Mussolini , later the Nazi Germany German Nazi regime. The British also looked beyond World War II , as they wanted to remain an influence in the Middle East, where oil had been discovered in the early 1930s. The station first started operation under the name Freedom Broadcasting Station, using Royal Air Force equipment in Jaffa. It was under the full control of the British Special Operations Executive and initially concerned itself with broadcasting to the Balkans . However, from an early point, it also broadcast in Arabic. The material broadcast at SOE s direction sometimes clashed with material broadcast by more official British stations and caused disputes within the British Directorate of Propaganda . Beginning in the second decade of the 19th century as an indigenous reform movement within the Armenian Apostolic Church , it developed into an independent community in 1846 in Istanbul to become known as the Armenian Evangelical Church and in subsequent decades registered a membership of 60,000 throughout the Ottoman Empire . After the First World War, when the Armenians Armenian population was devastated and the remnant deported from its historic homeland in what is now called Turkey, the Union was reorganized in Syria and Lebanon.
