It authenticates and records Coat of arms coats of arms rightfully borne in the United States or by U.S. citizens living abroad, publishing historic arms in A Roll of Arms, Registered by the Committee on Heraldry of the New England Historic Genealogical Society . The committee illustrated the published Roll of Arms with only the Escutcheon heraldry escutcheons or shield of arms for the registration. However, in the text of the Roll of Arms the full achievement, and other related matters are discussed. Though it does verify and register contemporary arms including assumed arms , generally only historic arms dating from before February 10, 1917, are published in the committee s roll of arms. The roll itself is published in pamphlets called parts , the first of which was published in 1928 but each segment of the roll also appears in an issue of The New England Historical and Genealogical Register . One need not be entitled to the arms in order to apply for their registration.     The New York Peace Society was the first peace movement peace society to be established in the United States . It has had several different incarnations, as it has merged into other organizations or dissolved and then been re created. First incarnation 1815 1828 David Low Dodge founded the society in 1815, soon after the end of the War of 1812 . It became an active organization, holding regular weekly meetings, and producing literature which was spread as far as Gibraltar and Malta , describing the horrors of war and advocating pacificism on Christianity Christian grounds. In 1828, the society merged with others in New Hampshire , Maine , and Massachusetts to form the American Peace Society . Second and third incarnations 1837 1844 The society was re formed as an independent organization in 1837. Until 1844, it sought to prevent Mexican American War war against Mexico by advocating negotiation. It then dissolved. An attempt was made to re create it, but this was short lived. The society was involved in a National Arbitration and Peace Conference in 1907. It is not to be confused with The New York Theosophical Society founded in 1875 , which is today a lodge of the American section of the Theosophical Society Adyar . Of the three major qin societies of the West the other two being the North American Guqin Association and the London Youlan Qin Society , this society is the most formally structured with a constitution statement and a more learned society approach to selecting members.
