for the Scottish house music group Nightcrawlers band The Nightcrawlers were a regional Daytona Beach, Florida band with a hit single, The Little Black Egg , recorded in 1965. The single ultimately reached 85 on the national charts after its third re release in 1967. The group had three other singles Cry , A Basket of Flowers and I Don t Remember . The five original members were Pete Thomason, Sylvan Wells, Robbie Rouse, Chuck Conlon and Tommy Ruger. Their sound is best described as sparse folk rock, popularized by The Byrds , The Beau Brummels , etc. They did one LP album for Kapp Records , but the original lineup disbanded in 1966, before the final and most popular release of The Little Black Egg . The reformed Nightcrawlers did one more single for Kapp, My Butterfly written by band members Sylvan Wells and Rick Hollinger, in a more hard rock vein and then disbanded. New Orleans Nightcrawlers are a Jazz and Rhythm & Blues group based in the New Orleans area. They were founded in 1994 by pianist Tom McDermott, sousaphonist Matt Perrine and trumpeter Kevin Clark. In addition, original members of the band included trumpeter Barney Floyd, Frank Oxley and Peter Kaplan on percussion, Craig Klein and Rick Trolsen on trombones, and saxophonists Eric Traub, Ken Snakebite Jacobs and Jason Mingledorff. More recent members of the band have included saxophonist Brent Rose and drummer Tanio Hingle. Originally modeled on the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Crawlers brought something new to the New Orleans brass band scene with their very sophisticated arrangements. Plot An unscrupulous peddler, after selling the executioner some five strand rope needed for a hanging , sells a bag of magic dust to the condemned man s father. The condemned man had been found guilty of causing the death of a child. The peddler collects ordinary dirt from the ground and insists that it will spread good will throughout the crowd and will make them feel love and sympathy for the man sentenced to be hanged. After making the purchase as the crowd gathers for the hanging, the man s father cries out and starts sprinkling the dust everywhere. At the end, Jeffrey Freed and his kind turn out to be cyborgs when it is revealed the monster called the Kreetor is really a human, the last remaining one who tries to get the cyborg to help his pregnant mate. The cyborg refuses, kills the monster, and leaves. Back at Jeffrey s house, he walks in, and says, Unplug the baby. He needs some sleep. The story ends with his wife unplugging the baby.
