  1. Nordic swan

unreferenced date January 2012 The Nordic Ecolabel or Nordic swan is the official sustainability ecolabel for the Nordic countries, introduced by the Nordic Council of Ministers. This is done by a voluntary license system where the applicant agrees to follow a certain criteria set outlined by the Nordic Ecolabelling in cooperation with stakeholders. These criteria include environmental, quality and health arguments. The criteria levels promote products and services belonging to the most environmentally sound and take into account factors such as free trade and proportionality cost vs. benefits . The Nordic Ecolabel now covers 67 different product groups, from hand soap to furniture to hotels. Products must verify compliance using methods such as samples from independent laboratories, certificates and control visits. The label is usually valid for three years, after which the criteria are revised and the company must reapply for a license. The Nordic Ecolabel first appeared in the United States through a small offering of Nordic products. KCK Industries recognized the value of branding quality eco friendly products and through a partnership with ABENA introduced Bambo Nature, an environmentally friendly baby diaper. The success of this offering has led to the expansion of the ecolabel in the U.S. External links http www.norden.org en nordic council of ministers councils of ministers nordic council of ministers for the environment mr m nordic ecolabel Information about the Ecolabel from the Nordic Council of Ministers http www.nordic ecolabel.org Official site for the Nordic Ecolabel sustainability stub Category Certification marks et P hjamaade keskkonnam rgis Luik fr Le Cygne blanc is Svansmerki no Svanemerket fi Joutsenmerkki sv Svanen milj m rkning ...   more details

  1. Nordic Games

unreferenced date June 2008 The Nordic Games was the first international multi sport event that focused primarily on winter sports , and was held at varying intervals between 1901 and 1926. It was organized by Sweden s Central Association for the Promotion of Sports , and more specifically by Viktor Balck , a member of that association and one of the five original members of the International Olympic Committee . It was, in many ways, a wiktionary Precursor precursor to the modern Winter Olympic Games , whose success was a contributing factor along with the social and economic turmoil following World War I to the Nordic Games s discontinuation in the 1920s. History Although nominally international, the Nordic Games was primarily a Swedish phenomenon, and the majority of competitors were from Sweden. Of the eight Nordic Games that were held, only one was hosted outside Sweden. The Swedish Tourist Association was significantly involved in the early games, hoping that they would draw attention and tourism to Sweden. After Balck s death in 1928, much of the driving force behind organizing the event disappeared. The Nordic Games scheduled for 1930 was cancelled due to a lack of snow , and the Games scheduled for 1934 faltered and was never held due to the Great Depression . The event was tentatively scheduled to be restarted in 1942, but World War II intervened, and the Nordic Games never resurfaced.
