  1. Numeric Annotation Glyphs

Numeric Annotation Glyphs or NAG s are used to annotate chess games when using a computer, typically providing an assessment of a chess move or a chess position. NAGs exist to indicate a simple annotation in a language independent manner. NAGs were first formally documented in 1994 by Steven J. Edwards in his Portable Game Notation Specification and Implementation Guide. ref http pgn.freeservers.com final.txt Formal PGN File Specification 1994 ref Within the PGN specification, 256 NAGs are proposed of which the first 140 are defined the remainder were reserved for future definition. Introduction A Numeric Annotation Glyph is composed of a dollar sign character immediately followed by one or more digit characters. Each NAG then has a specific meaning and often a standard typographical representation. The meanings first defined stemmed from the use of specific typographic symbols when annotators were commenting upon chess games most especially in Chess Informant ref name cisymbols http www.sahovski.co.rs other index.php?other 6 Chess Informant System of Signs ref publications. The objective was to devise an alternative representation of these symbols which could be incorporated in the simple computer file format proposed as the PGN standard. The PLANET barcode is either 12 or 14 digits long. This limitation is contributing to its supersession by Intelligent Mail Barcode . The barcode identifies mailpiece class and shape identifies the Confirm Subscriber ID includes up to 6 digits of additional information that the Confirm subscriber chooses, such as a mailing number, mailing campaign ID or customer ID ends with a check digit Like POSTNET , PLANET barcodes encodes the data in half and full height bars. Also like POSTNET, the barcode always starts and ends with a full bar often called a guard rail and each individual digit is represented by a set of five bars using a two out of five code . However, in POSTNET, the two bars are full bars in PLANET, the two of five are the short bars. As with POSTNET, the check digit is calculated by summing the other characters and calculating the single digit which, when added to the sum, makes the total divisible by 10. 1. List of Ace titles in numeric series

In January 1969, Ace Books switched from a letter series code for its books to a numeric series. The number does not indicate sequence of publication, unlike the number in the letter series codes instead it identifies the alphabetic position of the title. It was assigned by dividing the range 00001 99999 into 26 sections, one for each letter of the alphabet, and then assigning the code depending on the first letters of the title. As can be seen from the list below, this approach was evidently not followed in every case, but it accounts for the great majority of the codes. The number is also part of the ISBN , for the later titles the ISBN for a book if it has one can be formed by prefixing 0 for English language US, and 441 Ace s publisher number , to the serial number, and then calculating the last digit with an ISBN check digit calculator. For example, Christopher Stasheff s Escape Velocity has serial number 21599 the ISBN is 0 441 21599 8.
