Unreferenced date December 2009 Eanmund was a Suiones Swedish prince of the Yngling Scylfing dynasty . Unlike his relatives, Eanmund is only mentioned in Beowulf . Eanmund was the son of Ohthere , and was the brother of Eadgils . If he existed in real life, his real name was probably Proto Norse Aiwamunduz Old East Norse mund or munduz Old East Norse mund . Ohthere died, and Ohthere s younger brother Onela , usurped the Swedish throne. Since their uncle had seized power, Eanmund and Eadgils sought refuge among the Geats . This caused Onela to attack the Geats, an attack which was also motivated by the fact that the Geatish king Heardred s father had killed Onela s father Ongentheow . During the battle, Eanmund was killed by Onela s champion Weohstan and Heardred was killed as well. Eadgils, however, survived and according to the poem Beowulf character Beowulf later helped him avenge Eanmund and Ohthere by slaying Onela, an event which also appears in Scandinavian sources. Saxo s kings of Sweden appear in the Denmark Danish Gesta Danorum by Saxo Grammaticus . Some kings e.g. Athisl Adils , Hunding Fj lnir , Halfdan , Sigurd Ring , Ragnar Lodbrok and Erik and Alrik are based on the same traditions as the West Norse Ynglingatal , Ynglinga saga and Historia Norvegi Historia Norwegiae . Moreover, the dynasties are the same, i.e. the descendants of the god Frey i.e. the Yngling lineage Yngling s and intermediary Skj ldung s. However, there are many differences. These differences are not only due to a considerable distance in time from the kings they describe and to the traditions being kept in different parts of Scandinavia . Whereas Ynglingatal glorifies the Norwegian kings by their Swedish origins, Saxo s Swedish kings are there to glorify the Danes by being dominated by them, the task of which might have needed some creativity from Saxo s side and or Danish tradition. On the other hand, it did not need to move the Ynglings to Norway and so describes kings following Ingjald as kings of Sweden as Ynglings as well. Unreferenced date December 2009 The semi legendary kings of Sweden are the long line of Sweden Swedish kings who preceded Eric the Victorious , according to sources such as the Norse Sagas , Beowulf , Rimbert , Adam of Bremen and Saxo Grammaticus , but who are of disputed historicity because many of them appear in more or less unreliable sources. They are called sagokungar in Swedish, a name that intentionally has the double meanings fairy tale kings and Saga kings . All were depicted as descendents of the House of Yngling s Scylfings, either in direct royal line, or through the House of Ragnar Lodbrok and the house of Skj ldung Scylding . House of Ynglings Scylfings These kings belonged to an ancient dynasty mentioned in both the Norse sagas and in Beowulf . The preceding monarchs are mythical in character and have been given a separate section in mythical kings of Sweden .
