The Belgrade Competition in Oratory is an annual academic event at the University of Belgrade s University of Belgrade Faculty of Law Law School , which has gained significant popularity of the general public all over Serbia . In this competition students deliver their speeches on both free choice and given topics. The event represents an opportunity for students to express their critical opinions in front of government officials sitting in the front rows of the audience, when the largest lecture hall at the law school is filled to capacity. The competition is broadcast live on the national television program. This event is traditionally organized by university professors Obrad Stanojevi and Sima Avramovi , the founders of the Center for Oratory Institutio oratoria , which gathers the University of Belgrade s Law School students interested in developing public speaking skills and prepares them for competitions. These scholars hold an optional course on rhetoric at the Law School and both are authors of textbooks on rhetoric. Following the example of the University of Belgrade Faculty of Law Belgrade Law School , several educational institutions in the region organize their own similar events. The winners of local competitions throughout Serbia take part in the Serbian universities wide finals. The Oratorio del Santissimo Crocifisso or the Oratory of the Most Holy Crucifix is a building in central Rome , Italy . Located next to the church of San Marcello al Corso , it served as a prayer hall and meeting house for the Confraternita del SS. Crocifisso . It is best known, like the Oratorio del Gonfalone which shares the same artists, for its Mannerism Mannerist decorations. The structure was built by Giacomo Della Porta in 1568, near the church of San Marcello, for the Confraternity of Crucifix, founded to venerate the Crucifix crocefisso from the nearby church. The confraternity was composed of some of the richest men in Rome, including the cardinals Ranuccio Farnese cardinal Ranuccio and Alessandro Farnese cardinal Alessandro Farnese , nephews of the Pope. The theme of the interior decoration is the Triumph of the Cross . It employed Giovanni de Vecchi , Cesare Nebbia , Niccol Circignani , and Cristoforo Roncalli . It was also host of musical concerts, starting in 1639, when the first performances of fifteen musical oratorios oratories by Giacomo Carissimi and Emilio de Cavalieri occurred here. unreferenced date May 2008 The Lawrence Campbell Oratory Competition is an annual competition in impromptu public speaking between representatives of each of the GPS Schools Great Public Schools GPS and Combined Associated Schools CAS in New South Wales , Australia . It was established in 1935, in honour of Lawrence Campbell, a famous teacher of elocution in various schools in Sydney , New South Wales, in the early twentieth century. Format The Lawrence Campbell Oratory is widely regarded as the most prestigious, and difficult of the New South Wales Public Speaking Competitions. Each candidate is required to give a speech of eight minutes length of one of three topics given to him or her 15 minutes beforehand. In this competition, the emphasis is on oratory, the art of speech, and so the manner of delivery counts at least equally with the subject matter. The emphasis is on giving a speech that combines humour with pathos, dramatic elements with more conversational moments, serious commentary with light hearted asides, quotations drawn from a variety of sources, but all around a common thread based on the chosen topic, and showing the style of the candidate. Accordingly, the style of speech is very different from many other public speaking competitions in which candidates research and prepare speeches of their own in advance, often on questions of current affairs or public policy. With only fifteen minutes to prepare and without the aid of books or references, the content of the speech will test the candidates general knowledge and ingenuity. Barton Priory or Burton Oratory was a priory on the Isle of Wight , England . Early history The Convent, or Oratory of Burton, or Barton, having been dissolved long before the general suppression of monastic foundations, escaped the notice of DugJdale, Speed, Tanner, and other writers on religious houses, so that its existence had nearly funk into total oblivion. Sir John Oglander indeed mentions it in his manuscript Memoirs, but his information appears to have been merely traditional its history is however preserved in the register of John de Pontissera, Bishop of Winchester, wherein the statutes of the house are confirmed by an instrument, in which the bishop affirms he had seen the charters of John de Insula, Rector of Shalfieet, and of Thomas de Winton, Rector of Godshill, founders of the Oratory of the Holy Trinity of Burton, for the ordering and governing the said Oratory made, and in full force, under the seals of the founders, as follows I. The Oratorio dei Filippini Oratory of Saint Phillip Neri is a building located in Rome and erected between 1637 and 1650 by Francesco Borromini . He belonged to the Congregation of the Oratory , founded by Philip Neri in 1561. It was there that, in 1600, Emilio de Cavalieri s La rappresentazione di anima e di corpo , regarded as one of the first examples of the genre of the oratorio , was given for the first time. The oratory of Filippini is adjacent to the Chiesa Nuova , the mother church of the congregation. In front of the two sides was a small closed square, now integrated in the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II. History The congregation of the Filippini already had one of the most well decorated Baroque churches in Rome, and the order, so enthralled by the piousness encouraged by music, had planned to build an oratory, as well as a residential quarters, adjacent to the church of Santa Maria in Vallicella Chiesa Nuova located in crowded central Rome. Borromini won a competition for designing the structure against many including Paolo Maruscelli . He was employed in the task for 13 years, often a testy process. By 1640, the oratory was in use, by 1643, the library was complete. Description The striking facade adjacent to the church entrance has little regard for the structures behind. Inside the oratory is articulated by half columns and a complex rhythm of pilasters. The facade provides a summary of Borromini s characteristics of innovations style, both austere and technically rigorous.
