The Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire IODE is a women s charitable organization based in Canada . The club was originally titled the Federation of Daughters of the BritishEmpire , which was founded by Margaret Clark Murray in 1900. Initially wanting to expand nationally but with failed attempts, in 1901 the group opted to stay in Canada and the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire was formed. It was founded in 1900 during the Second Boer War in patriotic support of the BritishEmpire . It currently provides scholarship s, bursary bursaries , book prizes, and awards, as well as pursuing other philanthropic and educational projects in various communities across the nation. The club was originally formed to strengthen Canada s National ties. During the Second World War the IODE had 50 000 members and and participated in war effort relief drives, such as sock drives and scrap drives. The first chapter in New Brunswick was founded by Mrs. John Black in Fredericton, New Brunswick Fredericton . Fredericton was also the location of the first club meeting, on January 15, 1900. The clubs first president was Edith Nordheimer in 1901. The clubs motto was One Flag, One Throne, One Empire . The IODE ran a magazine called Echoes . The initial police investigation focuses on Mr. Sanderson s wife Kathleen McNenny whose motive may have been retaliation for suspected infidelities , a business associate Julian Spector Daniel Hugh Kelly , and Katrina Ludlow Julia Roberts , a professional party planner who eventually admits to having had sex with Sanderson right before his death. The British Empire Economic Conference also known as the Imperial Economic Conference or Ottawa Conference was a 1932 meeting conference of British colonies and the autonomous dominion s held to discuss the Great Depression . It was held between 21 July and 20 August in Ottawa . The conference saw the group admit the failure of the gold standard and abandon attempts to return to it. The meeting also worked to establish a zone of limited tariff s within the British Empire , but with high tariffs with the rest of the world. This was called Imperial preference or Empire Free Trade . This abandonment of open free trade led to a split in the British government. The conference was especially notable for its adoption of Keynesian economics Keynesian ideas such as lowering interest rate s, increasing the money supply , and expanding government spending .
