  1. Smart transducer

Image Smart transducer.gif thumbnail 400px A smart transducer containing a transducer, processing unit and may contain a communication interface. A smart transducer is an analog or digital transducer or actuator combined with a processing unit and a communication interface. As sensors and actuators become more complex they provide support for various modes of operation and interfacing. Some applications require additionally fault tolerance and distributed computing . Such high level functionality can be achieved by adding an embedded microcontroller to the classical sensor actuator, which increases the ability to cope with complexity at a fair price. In the machine vision field, a single compact unit which combines the imaging functions and the complete image processing functions is often called a smart sensor. 1. Wind Transducer

Orphan date February 2009 A Wind Transducer is a device used by sailors to receive a real time measurement of wind speed and direction. A wind transducer is usually mounted on the masthead of a sailboat and is occasionally used by power boats too. The wind speed and direction measurements are more critical to sail boats than to power boats. Sailors rely on the wind speed and direction to help with navigation and pilotage . These devices can be calibrated to measure the true wind speed and the apparent wind speed speed that a sailor would feel . Sail boats can sail at max 45 degrees close to the wind and will sail faster on a reach than when at closest to the wind. Wind Transducers are usually wired to the cock or head though wireless versions are becoming steadily more popular due to the reduced installation time required. 1. Tactile transducer

A tactile transducer or bass shaker is a device which is made on the principle that low bassline bass frequencies can be felt as well as heard. A shaker transmits low frequency vibrations into various surfaces so that they can be felt by people. This is called tactile sound . Tactile transducers may augment or in some cases substitute for a subwoofer . A bass shaker is meant to be firmly attached to some surface such as a seat, couch or floor. The shaker houses a small weight which is driven by a voice coil similar to those found in dynamic loudspeakers. The voice coil is driven by a low frequency audio signal from an amplifier common shakers typically handle 25 to 50 watt s of amplifier power. The voice coil exerts force on both the weight and the body of the shaker, with the latter forces being transmitted into the mounting surface. Tactile transducers may be used in a home cinema home theater , a commercial movie theater, or for special effects in an arcade game , amusement park ride or other application. Related to Bass Shakers are a newer type of Tactile Transducer referred to as linear actuator Linear Actuators . These piston like electromagnetic devices are said to transmit motion in a direct and lossless fashion. Linear Actuators directly and physically lift home theater seating in the vertical plane rather than transferring vibrations by mounting within a seat, platform or floor . This technology is said to transmit a high fidelity sound motion augmentation, whereas Shakers may require heavy equalization and or multiple units to approach a realistic effect. Fact date February 2007 There are other products now on the market which employ hydraulic long throw linear actuators and outboard motion processors for home applications as popularized in virtual reality rides. These products differ radically from tactile transducers in that they require the manual composition ... TADS DEFAULTSORT Tactile Transducer Category Transducers technology stub ...   more details

  1. Levenshtein transducer

In computer science , Levenshtein automata for a formal language are the family of finite state automata that can recognize the set V of all string computer science Formal theory word s in the language for which the Levenshtein distance to an arbitrary word w does not exceed a particular constant. Levenshtein transducers are extended Levenshtein automata that can in addition generate all strings in V at a fixed Levenshtein distance from a given w . A Levenshtein automaton for W can be constructed in linear time with respect to the length of W , and can identify V in less time than would be needed if the Levenshtein distance to W was calculated for each word in the language a problem with quadratic time complexity . Since Levenshtein automata are finite state machines, they can be described in some regular expression frameworks and finite state algebra applies to them. In particular, Levenshtein transducers can be composed with other finite state transducer s. Merge to IEEE 1451 date July 2011 A Transducer Electronic Data Sheet TEDS is a standardized method of storing transducer sensor s or actuator s identification, calibration, correction data, and manufacturer related information ref cite web url http standards.ieee.org regauth 1451 IEEE 1451d4 Templates Tutorial 061804.doc title An Overview of IEEE 1451.4 Transducer Electronic Data Sheets TEDS publisher ieee.org accessdate 2005 11 28 ref . TEDS formats are defined in the IEEE 1451 set of Smart transducer interface standards developed by the IEEE Instrumentation and Measurement Society s Sensor Technology Technical Committee that describe a set of open, common, network independent communication interfaces for connecting transducers to microprocessors, instrumentation systems, and control field networks. One of the key elements of the IEEE 1451 standards is the definition of TEDS for each transducer. The TEDS can be implemented as a memory device attached to the transducer and containing information needed by a measurement instrument or control system to interface with a transducer. TEDS can, however, be implemented in two ways. First, the TEDS can reside in embedded memory, typically an EEPROM , within the transducer itself which is connected to the measurement instrument or control system. Second, a virtual TEDS can exist as a data file accessible by the measurement instrument or control system. A virtual TEDS extends the standardized TEDS to legacy sensors and applications where embedded memory may not be available. 1. Ortho R. Fairbanks

Ortho R. Fairbanks is one of the many members of the Fairbanks family who have been prominent artists. Fairbanks was a grandson of painter John B. Fairbanks and the nephew of Avard Fairbanks . He was born in Salt Lake City and received a BFA from the University of Utah in 1952 taking classes from his Uncle Avard. He received his MFA in 1953 also from the University of Utah. ref name autogenerated1 http www.lib.utah.edu fa UtahArtists artists fairbankso index.html Utah Artists Project Ortho R. He had access to the church death masks of Joseph and Hyrum Smith. Because of the ability to have these death masks he was able to accurately sculpt the Prophet Joseph Smith. Because of these death masks it has given many artists the ability to portray what the prophet Joseph would have looked like. Ortho was one of the first sculptors to use these masks to sculpt his portrayal of Joseph Smith ... Metadata see Wikipedia Persondata . NAME Fairbanks, Ortho R. 1. Log-space transducer

Orphan date February 2009 A log space transducer LST is a type of Turing machine used for log space reductions. A log space transducer has three tapes A read only input tape. A read write work tape. A write only, write once output tape. A language A is said to be log space reducible to a language B if there exists a LST which will convert an input from problem A into an input to problem B, using logarithmic space on the work tape, such that the input is in A iff the output is in B. This seems like a rather convoluted idea, but it has two useful properties that are desirable for a reduction The property of transitivity holds. A reduces to B and B reduces to C implies A reduces to C . If A reduces to B, and B is in L complexity L , then we know A is in L complexity L .
