  1. Weaver stance

The Weaver stance is a popular technique for firing handguns . It was developed by Los Angeles County Sheriff Deputy Sheriff Jack Weaver during freestyle pistol competition in Southern California during the late 1950s. Description The Weaver Stance has two components. The first component is a two handed technique in which the dominant hand holds the pistol or revolver and the support hand wraps around the dominant hand. The dominant arm s elbow is nearly straight while the support elbow is noticeably bent straight down. The shooter pushes forward with his dominant hand while the support hand exerts rearward pressure. The resultant isometric tension is intended to lessen and control muzzle flip when the gun is fired. The second component, and most commonly known, is the positioning of the feet in a walking stance, with the off side foot ahead of the strong side foot. A right handed person will have the right foot angled out to the side and further to the rear. Most of the weight will be on the left foot, with the knee slightly bent. The shoulders will be leaned forward over the left toe. The right foot behind will help catch the force of recoil, as well as allow for rapid changes in position. A left handed person will have the right foot forward. 1. Three-point stance

Unreferenced date December 2009 Image ThreePointStance.jpg thumb Three point stance The three point stance is a stance used by offensive and defensive linemen in American football as well as running backs. This stance requires one hand to touch the ground with the other arm cocked back to the thigh hip region. The back should be slightly inclined forward, as well as the arm which is placed on the ground. Offensive linemen should put almost no pressure on the grounded hand because an opponent could easily knock him down by attacking it. A defensive lineman however wants an explosive start when the ball is snapped and may lean heavily on the grounded arm to facilitate this. The head should be raised toward the opponent when in this position. This prevents the player from sustaining serious injury and helps him to guide his initial action when the play begins for example, an offensive lineman might choose whom to block first . The three point stance can be useful when trying to gain leverage on the opponent. Reggie White expressed his preference in using this kind of stance . NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has discussed banning the stance from the game due to injury concerns.
