  1. Straight photography

Unreferenced stub auto yes date December 2009 Pure photography or straight photography refers to photography that attempts to depict a scene as Realism visual arts realistically and Objectivity science objectively as permitted by the medium, renouncing the use of photo manipulation manipulation . Founded in 1932, Group f 64 who championed purist photography, had this to say Pure photography is defined as possessing no qualities of technique, composition or idea, derivative of any other art form. The term emerged in the 1880s to mean simply an unmanipulated photographic print, in opposition to the composite prints of Henry Peach Robinson or the soft focus painterly images of some pictorialist photographers. At first, straight photography was a viable choice within pictorialism, as, for example, the work of Henry Frederick Evans. Paul Strand s 1917 characterization of his work as absolute unqualified objectivity described a change in the meaning of the term. It came to imply a specific aesthetic typified by higher contrast, sharper focus, aversion to cropping, and emphasis on the underlying abstract geometric structure of subjects. Some photographers began to identify these formal elements as a language for translating metaphysical or spiritual dimensions into visual terms. This emphasis on the unmanipulated silver print dominated modernist photographic aesthetics into the 1970s. Image Altdorfer Donau.jpg thumb 200px Danube landscape near Regensburg , by Albrecht Altdorfer The Danube School or Donau School German Donauschule or Donaustil is the name of a circle of painters of the first third of the 16th century in Bavaria and Austria mainly along the Danube valley . Many also were innovative printmaker s, usually in etching . They were among the first painters to regularly use pure landscape painting , and their figures, influenced by Matthias Gr newald , are often highly expressive, if not expressionist . They show little Italian influence, and also represent a decisive break with the high finish of Northern Renaissance painting, using a more painterly style that was in many ways ahead of its time. Among its members were Albrecht Altdorfer Wolf Huber J rg Breu the Elder Rueland Frueauf the Younger Augustin Hirschvogel draughtsman, printmaker Lucas Cranach the Elder was a major influence on, and is occasionally considered a member of, the Danube school. The three parts of the novel are set in a villa on the French Riviera before the First World War, a sheep station on the edge of Australia s Snowy Mountains in the inter war period, and in London in the lead up to the Second World War. White charts the transmigration of a soul through three different identities Eudoxia, Eddie, and Eadith two of them in female guise. As in many of White s novels, the main focus is on identity White views his subject from masculine feminine, colonial English, rural metropolitan, and bourgeois bohemian polarities. The writing has been described as vivid and painterly in its attention to landscape, and remorseless in its critical dissection of social conventions. The novel is a virtuosic display of White s characteristic wicked humour. The Twyborn Affair was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1979, but was removed at the request of the author, that it make way for the work of younger and more deserving writers. This reflects White s refusal, later in life, of all literary awards. He made an exception for the 1973 Nobel Prize Nobel Prize in Literature , but sent a surrogate to Sweden to accept the award on his behalf.
