It takes its name from several human fossil fossil footprints . Local tradition attributed the prints to the Devil, since it was deemed the sole creature capable of walking on lava without harm. The footprints were in fact made in volcanic ash by a bipedal hominidae hominid living in the area some 350,000 years ago. A. C. L. Carlleyle was a nineteenth century archaeologist. The Archaeological Survey of India was revived as a distinct department of the government and Sir Alexander Cunningham was appointed as Director General who assumed his charge in February 1871. Cunningham was given two assistants J.D. Beglar and Carlleyle who were later joined by H.B.W. Garrik. Carlleyle handled the Agra region for the Report of 1871 72 whereas Beglar was in charge of Delhi. In 1867 68, Carlleyle discovered paintings on the walls and ceilings of rock shelters in Sohagighat, district Mirzapur . He was also the first to claim a Stone Age antiquity for these. Pengornis is known from a single fossil, described by Zhou et al. in 2008. This holotype is in the collection of the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology in Beijing China. Its accession number is IVPP V15336. It was collected from the Jiufotang Formation , at Dapingfang, Chaoyang, Liaoning China. Pengornis shows characters of the humeral head, acromion, and anterior cervical vertebrae, that were previously known only in members of the Ornithurae . A phylogenetic analysis by Zhou et al. reduces to just three the number of characters that support enantiornithine monophyly . The type species Liaoningosaurus paradoxus was named by Xu Xing paleontologist Xu Xing , Wang Xiaolin and You Hailu in 2001. The generic name refers to Liaoning. The specific name zoology specific name refers to the confusing mix of nodosaurid and ankylosaurid features shown by the specimen. The articulated skeleton measures approximately 34 cm in length, giving it the distinction of being the smallest known ankylosaur specimen. Dr. Yohannes Haile Selassie b. Adigrat , Ethiopia , February 23, 1961 is an Ethiopian paleoanthropology paleoanthropologist . An authority on pre Homo sapiens hominid s, he particularly focuses his attention on the East African Rift and Middle Awash Valleys of East Africa . He began his education at Addis Ababa University in Addis Ababa , graduating in the summer of 1982 with a B.A. degree in history. His first job was at the National Museum of Ethiopia in Addis Ababa. His graduate education began at The University of California, Berkeley , where he was mentored by Tim White anthropologist Tim White and earned an M.A. in Anthropology in 1995 and a Ph.D. in Integrative Biology in 2001. In 2002, he became the Curator and Head of Physical Anthropology Department at the Cleveland Museum of Natural History in Cleveland, Ohio , where he works currently. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Anthropology and Anatomy at Case Western Reserve University .
