Paolo Dezza, S.J. December 13, 1901 in Parma, Italy December 17, 1999 in Rome was a Roman Catholic Jesuit Cardinal Catholicism cardinal who led the Pontifical Gregorian University during the pontificate of Pope Pius XII , whom he aided in the preparation of the Dogma Roman Catholic dogma of the Assumption of Mary . He was confessor to Pope Paul VI and Paul s successor, Pope John Paul I , and was a teacher of Pope John Paul I s successor, Pope John Paul II . In 1981, Pope John Paul II appointed Dezza and an assistant, then Father later Archbishop Giuseppe Pittau , S.J., to head the Jesuit order, which would have preferred a liberal American, Father Vincent O Keefe . In 1991, Dezza was named a cardinal by Pope John Paul II out of gratitude for his services to the Church in the management of the crisis and for his work as a theologian and university president. Pope John Paul II personally conducted the Mass of Christian Burial for the funeral of Paolo Cardinal Dezza on December 20, 1999. Aged seventeen, Dezza entered the Jesuit order on December 2, 1918. Paolo Achenza is an Italy Italian jazz pianist from Bari and was one of the first Italian artists involved with the acid jazz scene. In the second half of the 1990s, he formed the Paolo Achenza Trio with Stefano Valenzano and Massimiliano Ingrosso to make various albums and singles. He is best known for the story of his affair with Francesca da Polenta , portrayed by Dante in a famous episode of his Divine Comedy Inferno Canto V . He was the brother of Giovanni Malatesta Giovanni Gianciotto and Malatestino Malatesta . Paolo married in 1269 with Orabile Beatrice, last countess of Ghiaggiolo the title was inherited by their son Uberto. Despite usually depicted as a romantic man with little attention to worldly matters, the historical Paolo was long present alongside his father in the wars against the Ghibellines of Romagna . In 1265 he fought against Guido da Montefeltro and, together with Guido da Polenta of Ravenna , against the Traversari . In March 1282 Pope Martin IV chose him as podest of Florence in this occasion probably Dante met him. Paolo s career was however halted when his relationship with Francesca da Polenta was discovered by her husband Gianciotto, who killed them.
