Haskell was an United States American politician and a member of the United States House of Representatives for Tennessee s Tennessee s 11th congressional district 11th congressional district . He was born in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on July 21, 1818. He was privately tutored, he attended the public schools of Murfreesboro, and he attended the University of Nashville in Nashville, Tennessee . He was a soldier in the Seminole War in 1836. During the Mexican American War , he served in the First Brigade, Second Regiment of the Tennessee Volunteers. He worked as a lawyer in private practice. In 1840 and 1841, William T. Haskell served in the Tennessee House of Representatives . He was elected as a Whig Party United States Whig to the Thirtieth United States Congress Thirtieth Congress . Early Life and Education Haskell Monroe is the only cild of Haskell Moorman Monroe, Sr and Myrtle Marie Monroe nee Jackson of Garland, Texas. THe family lived in Garland, Texas until several moves to towns in Texas and Arkansas in 1939 and 1940. In 1941, the family moved to Orange, Texas where the elder Monroe was enployed at Consolidated Shipyards. Haskell Jr. graduated from Orange High School in 1948. While working on his master s degree, he taught history at nearby Denison High School in Denison, TX and served in the Navy Reserve .
